scratch building my F3A 3D Profile
Hello Everyone.
Just sharing some pics of a profile plane Im building.
I have never had or build a profile before so any recomendation or comment will be appreciated.
The fuselage will be pink foam sheeted in the front with 1/16 ply and the rest with 1/16 balsa
Foam wings with NACA 0014 as root rib and NACA 0016 as tip rib (40 inches wingspan)
Hope to be able to complete it at 2.5 oz in order to be able to use a 40 size enging to make 3d maneuvers at 7,349 feet over the sea level (México City)

Thanks RCManiac and Aiaiojet,
do you recomend using 1/16 ply for the front sheeting of the fuselage or would it be better a complete balsa sheeting and fiberglassing the front section of the fuse.
Regards
Oddy

Oddy,
I'd use 1/8 ply laminations from the CG forward, and eliminate the foam. You can use 3/8 sq or 1/2 sq.. balsa and apply 1/16 or 3/32 over the fuselage frame for sides.
Probably be just as light as the foam.
But first, you have to address the wing issue. Is the thing upside down?

RE: scratch building my F3A 3D Profile
Hi,
Actually the wing is OK,,,,,Im trying to build an F3A type plane with 3D capabilities such as the ones in the images following.
Regarding the ply on the front side of the fuse....I was just wondering if given the fact I´m already using pink foam which is heavier than white regular foam, if I can use 1/16 balsa sheeting and trying to get enough structural strenght by fiberglassing the front of the fuse with 2 oz. cloth.....(technique used very much on pylon racing Q500 planes) but i dont want to find at the end of the process that there is no enough strenght on the fuse so I guess i will go with Ply for the fuse front and balsa for the rest of it.

Through the foam away. Believe me.
Build the fuselage as I recommended. Otherwise the wing to fuselage joint will be useless.
It's good advice.
Your wing wasn't OK, it was upside down.
