I learned on a Kraft single stick -so I got used to using my thumb and index finger on the right stick ,but I just use my thumb on the left -I also use a neck strap to hold the transmitter

Thumbs, no strap, no tray.

Gotta keep the fingers free to flip switchs.

The "pros" use whatever they like...They use what is the most comfortable for them.

Everyone uses what is the most comfortable, unless their instructors told them to do it another way and they have always done that.

Try them both and see which is more comfortable for you.

I use thumbs for it all...I can't imagine doing snap rolls and 3D stuff with both fingers. I don't use a strap or anything like that either...So, I fly like YNOT.

Well for a little twist I use my thumb and index fingers on both sticks, most of the time. When I do snaps or manuevers that require very fast movement I have noticed that I frequently move the sticks with just my thumbs, and then go right back to thumb and index. I do not use a neck strap and have no probs reaching the switches.

Maybe it's just me, but I was never comfortable using Futaba radios. I started using JR's about 10 years and they seem to fit me a bit better. At least I never bobble them trying to flip a switch.

I kinda have to use my right index finger because an agry prop cut my right thumb to shreds at age 15 and I have little feeling in it now. I started painting my prop tips after that and stopped using MA props. APC's are not quite as sharp. The throttle servo failed and I went through the prop instead of around it to pinch the fuel line. Oh the feeling of nitro in numerous deep cuts.

Thumbs and index on both sides. Thumbs are placed on side of stick not on top. Neck strap.

Thumb and finger pinch as well. No strap. Hold the trans by compressing it with palms. Pinky fingers only on the back. Others go on top & face for flipping switches.

I forced myself to learn with thumbs and finger. I have a tray but I always forget to use it. Also I feel kind of weird pulling the tray out. It's like walking down the street with your guns tied down.

Thumbs here, and they be really dumb ones too!!!

I'm not comfortable the other way partly because I don't seem to have the agility or speed. I also don't use a neck strap or tray.

I guess it comes down to personal preference on how you hold the sticks.... I started out with thumbs but I was looking for more control and switched. Before I felt like I was just banging the sticks around. Now after a couple of months of pratice I feel like I'm driving the sticks instead of banging them and my flying has improved greatly.

Later, Ken

RSands, I tried the pinch, compressed palms, hold it with the pinkies, fingers on top for switches...seems kinda awkward. I think I feel more comfortable, with a more secure grip, if I use the ole thumbs. Comfort and control are all that really matters. I use a neck strap also.

You know, I'll make another confession here. I started using my neck strap when I started hovering at ground level. I get so nervous/excited my palms sweat and combined with the oil I always seem to get all over, I was sure I would drop the tx. Now I feel naked w/o the strap, and I usually have it holding the weight of the tx.
