Monokote not sticking ?
Well guys, I have a slight problem. The "embalmer knife' needed recovering in some areas.
My problem is, around the motor mount area, my motor leaked some oilly residue around my beams and the front of plane. It plywood, and it totally covered with soaked up oil. I tried sanding it, but it didn't work. Its soaked in pretty deep. My monokote won't stick to the ply wood. How can i get my monokote to stick.
Do I need to add sometype of powder to the area to try and soak it up? any good tips will greatly be appreciated.

K2R Spot Lifter.
It is a solvent with a powder suspended. Smells like the old dry cleaning fluid (triclorsomething). The solvent will dissolve the oil and then it flashes off and the suspended powder soaks up whats left.

Monokote not sticking ?
Hmmmmm...... Memphis is a small town ? hehe
If you went back to my hometown of McVeigh, KY you would freak out....... population around 200. Place was so small they took our Post Office away, and made us go to the next town to pick up our mail. Said we didn't need a Post Office !! It was a 45 minute drive to McDonald's........ I'm talking BOONIES here guys.
Transplanted Hillbilly......

Monokote not sticking ?
Chuck, I guess, I can find it in household cleaners section, right.
Alfster,
I live live less than 15mins from Memphis. In the next couple of years it will probably be a suburb. but where I work, it's probably about an hr from Memphis, in Ripley TN. Population there is about 10,000. Its in between Memphis & Dyersburg.
As for really small towns, where I went to high school in Holcomb MO population was 600. Grades 6-12 had less than 300 students. I grad. with 21 other people.

Monokote not sticking ?
thanks chuck,
I couldn't find it at wal-mart in the town where I work. But I did find some prestone auto interior cleaner, that looked like it worked well. My plywood almost looks new again. I will try to cover it tonight when I get home.
Thanks again chuck,

Before you use the K2R, go over the area with your heat gun. The oil will bubble to the surface and keep wiping it away with a new paper towel. If you just use the K2R there is a chance of the covering not sticking when hit with the iron (this is when the oil will come to the surface). Don't knock it until you try it. You will be amazed.

Monokote not sticking ?
Thanks for all the help. I got it fixed late last night and flew it Saturday.
I swear that will be the last time I use econokote. I used econokote yellow and red, and the top plastic is seperating from the colored part of covering and letting goop set in. I got it fixed. My red econokote wouldn't stick, but my white monokote would. so I had to patch it with another color
Normally I use econokote, because most my profiles only last a season or 2. But from now on, i will use only monokote.

Good choice... I used econokote once on a low temp application... It was for a foam glider.... Worked okay, but there's no goop to deal with... I like monokote for everything else..

CONTAMINATED BALSA
Just a thought guy`s,
if you drive day and night for two days,
fix the flat tyre.
find the store,
pay the dollars for the can,
drive all the way back,
after shaking off the law, after being mistaken for a escaped convict,
explain to the wife, that your not having an affair, its just a modeling thing
sleep for three days to recover,
replace the gas you used getting there and back,
spray the stuff on,
hope you didn't miss any contamination,
re cover it,
the four flights later watch it lift again!!!
OR!!!
WHY NOT JUST CUT OUT THE BAD AND REBUILD,
OR BUILD A NEW FUS, AND FUEL PROOF IT??
SORRY GUY`S JUST TRYIN TO ELP!!
here`s a tip use a thin coat of fuel proofer or epoxy and coat the seams of your covering film any where that the fuel may get in and hey presto!!!
no unstickyo myfilmo
its fun to fly funfly

fadmuker,
the reason, I didn't cut out the area was because it wasn't that bad. And I sure am not going to build a new fuselage because it not busted up. all I needed was to get a light coat of goop off of the wood. I did use trim seal to seal where the differant color came together, but the econokote seperated, letting oil in.
