CG Extreme 330 "reborn"
A buddy of mind here crashed his profile 330 last weekend - broke the fuse clean in half behind the wing - and since he didn't want to fix it, he just gave it to me. (wahoo!) We de-covered it, peeled off about 2-3" of sheeting either side of the break, re-spliced the stringers, re-sheeted what we took off, fixed some broken ribs and shear webs in the wing, and re-covered. Came out at 5lb 1oz, was 4lb 12oz before the crash. I'm still not done w/the trim scheme, but I just coulnd't wait. Flew it for the first time today... I couldn't wipe the grin off my face all evening!!! Flies GREAT! Has plenty of power w/a OS .46FX, Tower muffler, APC 12.25x3.75 prop. Still needs some KE mixing, but boy is it stable in a hover. You almost just watch!
Now if I can just keep it together until Nashville......

What a deal you got huh? Some things in life can still be had for free! If getting it for free makes you feel guilty in any way, then you can clear your conscience by giving it to me! Come on man, free yourself of the guilt. I can pickup in Nashville.

I love that story, matlock!! I think it's great when a little "dumpster diving" can pay off with such a fine reward.
It's sorta ironic to read This Thread where a guy has quite a different take on the exact same model.
Let's just say that after reading your story I'd be proud to shake your hand. As for the other guy, well.... :

I would also like to be so lucky as you were when you got that plane for free.
I've got just one question: Did you show this model to your friend?

Yea unfortunately all the trim was done w/heat - quite a few bubbles. I thought the windex trick only worked w/Monokote and I was using UltraCote. (yuck!) But you just can't beat three rolls of free covering....... (I built a plane for a guy and that was my "payment")
And yes, he's seen his old plane!
