A MVVS 40 equipped with a mini-tuned pipe and an APC 11x4 prop is a killer setup. I had one on my Knife ARF and it hovered at about 2/3 throttle. On a lightweight kit-built Sledge (which would likely be a full pound lighter than my ARF), the engine would be even more impressive.

My suggestion would be the Irvine since mine has pefromed flawlessly....maybe an oz or two heavier but power out the wazoo. But I hear that even a TT46pro or OS46FX will handle a kit built profile providing its around the 4lb range. Remember...can never have too much power but the weight is always equally imprtant.

I probably will end up with something larger, but i have kept it pretty light so far with contest grade balsa, carbon gear, small throttle servo, and some lithium batteries. It's almost done now and would like to replace the engine, royal 46, that i was going to use because of throttle transition and getting the engine to run reliable for even 3 minutes at a time. It flamed out 3 times in the last 3 flights of my profile hots, and the last wrecking the plane.

You must have a bad a** MVVS 40 or either a really light Knife ARF. I tried that same combo and ended up with an Irvine 53 to get my fat Knife ARF to hang.
My Knife, RIP, was capable of just about everything in the book.I'm now flying a Topcap ARF w/ a MVVS 49 and this motor makes the 40 look like a .061... It spins either a 12x4 or 12.25x3.75 prop around 15,000 rpm using FAI fuel. Hovers at about 1/3 throttle and pull out like a rocket.

Im pretty sure I tried a 11x4 of various brands with no luck. But I bought it used and it could been past its useful life. And I never had a good pipe for it either.

If the 49 spins that much better, than i think i will just spend an extra $15 and get the .49.

Paul, I've got a MVVS 49 and a Webra 50. Personally, I think the MVVS is a better engine than the Webra. Not taking anything away from the Webra which is a oz or two lighter than the MVVS, I'd rank the Webra close second to the MVVS in this size range of engines, but the MVVS makes more tractable power with big props than the Webra.
