Default Top Cap building question.

I was reading through the manial (yeah, some of us do it by the book) and when joining the wing it states to strip back 1/2" from both sides, join, F/G and then glue the covering back on. Then when gluing the wing to the fuse, simply gluing it in with the covering glued down. I feel there will not be a good glue joint there if I do it that way. I'm planning on doing the F/G and then ironing the covering down and then using my soldering iron to strip the covering off (it leaves a good ironed down seal that way)and then mating the wing to the fuse so there is a F/G to wood joint rather than a glued down covering to wood joint. Is this (or something similar) what others have done, or have you just glued the wing on with the covering in place as in the directions?

Jon, definately glass the center....Im suffering from a slight delima right now, my Sledge is suffering from split wings slightly at the center. Paul told me to glass my center section but I didnt. I am no longer a fan of asphalt runways...it seems a few too many dead sticks from 5' over the runway has done a little damage. But you also MUST have clean (uncovered) fuse to adhere to with the epoxy when joining the wing to the fuse. Dont ask me how I know that either....[:@]

Basic airframe is complete now. Tail is assembled and hinged. Ailerons come tomorrow, then horns and crimping the pull-pull to the tail. It sure went together fast.

If (big if) I get any workshop time this week, I'll get to fly it this weekend.

Tootles,

Jon

Easy there Shortman, he has the ARF. I know guys have been bustin your chops about the high rate of speed in which you build.............uhhhhhh, you are building a kit right? But dont worry, Im about as fast as you are. The most Ive done recently is cover a Sledge that Pauly built for me.....oh and I built a SPad3D if that counts for anything.

Ah that would explain it.... Yeah unfortunately I am still building the kit. Although I sure hope the satisfaction of me building it pays off hehehe. Someday I will finish it and it will be over and flying. I just got to get a friend over and get some motivation to finish it.

I stole 35 minutes at the shop last night. Got the control horns on the tail and the pull-pull fittings on the back side. Tonight I do the ailerons and their linkages and start the radio installation.

I began on the tank, but like the reviews on the Morris site said, the tubing is very brittle. Gonna stop at the HS on my way home and get some better tubing.

Jon, are you going to put the tank in the wing or on the fuse. I like the fuse idea for several reasons myself.......better fuel draw in a hover and equally as important, the fuel is visible to the pilot.

But hey...you keep stealing 30 minutes here and 15 minutes there and you'll have that baby flying. I think Lil Philip is starting to have a ball with his GWB. I like it.........we can have our own little Pro-Bro group here pretty soon. Once we get "Nobody" a profile we'll be doing pretty good. And we need to get Tom to finish his OMP Edge and off that Extreme 330.......he wont believe the difference. We gonna have us a Memphis maniac group in Ky............... well I can dream cant I?

Call us the "Loonieville Loopers" or "Hoverbatic's Homeboys" or "Tom Sawyer Torquerollers" or "River City Bad Boyz: P!ss'n off the Old Farts" (RCBBPOTOF for short). That is all I can come up with right now.

Well, it's done except for 2 things...one is settign the final neutral on the ailerons...no big deal. the other is I need an extension of 5/8" for muffler off the engine...the muffler hits the wing and I really do not want to cut into my wing to make claerance for it. I'll have to see if Tourqin's dad can mill me something out.

Chuck--

GMS 47 with their "Tuned Muffler" the one that looks like the Tower Muffler. It is rather long and hits the wing.
