hi!
im new here and i have some questions about my nearly finished topcap.
i have a two engines :an "OS 46 LA" and an "OS FS52"
1. is any of these engines a good match with my topcap? will any of them be strong enough to get the topcap to hower properly? and which of them would be the best match?
2. if none of the engines i already have are good enough will a "OS 50SX" do the trick? is the "50SX" like lightyears better?
cheers

IMHO, neither of the motors you have will be enough to get the most out of the Top Cap. They will be enough to "fly around", but you won't have enough to hover or do any 3D.
If you want a 2 cycle you have several to choose from:
OS46FX
OS50SX
Irvine 53
TT 46 Pro
No matter what 2 cycle you pick, I would strongly suggest you either get a mouse can pipe, or a Tower Muffler for it.
If you want a 4 cycle, then there is the following choices:
Saito 72
YS63
You WILL notice "light years" of difference between any of these motors and the 46LA.
Motor's are like opinions, everybody has their personal favorite. If money's tight, I would suggest either the TT46Pro or the OS46FX. Both run good and are realitively inexpensive.
If money's no option, then either the Saito 72 or the YS 63 would be the motor of choice.
You didn't say if you had the kit or the ARF. Whichever you have, you will need to reinforce the aft fusalage behind the wing. Top Caps are know to break there as they get "older". Just add some Flat Carbon Fiber rod and you will be fine. It won't add hardly any weight, but you will gain a lot of strength.
Good Luck and welcome.
BTW: I just noticed that you are across the pond. If getting 15% Nitro fuel is a problem, you could also look at a MVVS49. They are definitely more picky and harder to tune, but they will produce gobs of power on low Nitro fuel (0% -5%). They run like garbage on greater than 5% Nitro fuel. The Irvine 53 might also be a good choice for low Nitro situations.

If you're going to use a 2C, try a MVVS 49 or Webra 50. I don't own a YS 63, but people rave about them here on RCU. I do have a Saito 72, and it's perfect if you plan on using a 4C.

I have the TopCap (Kit not ARF) powered with OS46FX (stock muffler with baffle removed), 11x4 Master Airscrew and she has unlimited vertical ability. It will hover (I can't b/c of lack of skills) with plenty to get out of a bad situation. RTF weight is 4lbs 11 oz.

I have a Rossi 45 Power House with a Tuned Pipe. I do many acrobatics but do not fly 3D. Never learned how to do that. I can say the Rossi 45 Power House with the Tuned pipe flies the Top Cap great.
