Default 61 FX on a slowpoke ARF..

I have been flying my slowpoke 40 ARF for awhile, I have an OS 40la on it right now.. The plane flies fine a little though underpowered... I have a 61fx sitting on the shelf waiting for a home.. I Just wanted to know If anybody has done this.. and could tell me what to expect... THe 61fx weighs 10oz more than the 40la.. I already had to put 9+ ounces of weight in the nose to get the proper CG w/40la.. so it should handle the weight of the motor with no prob and little balancing.. I have modified the landing gear so that the plane has approx 3" more of ground clearance, so a 11" or 12" prop will fit nicely.. I Just want to know if you thinkn it will still slow to landing speed? I figure due to the extremly big airfoil, it should still crawl to a landing... let me know... THanks

i would reccomend a 40 or 46 fx or ax but a 61 is twice the power of a 40 la but if you want to then make a video i want to see it fly.

I think you should be ok with the .61 as long as you watch the throttle. I had a slo-poke and had to add many oz of lead to the nose to get it to balance. The extra weight of the motor should help. Why add lead, when you can add motor.

I tend toagree that it should fit and balance should not be a problem, My concern is that it will not slow down for landing? anybody got some experiance in this area?

bigger prop less pitch. You wont have a problem. Try a 13x4.

I have a Slowpoke Kit and I put an OS 70 Surpass. What a blast. This plane will slow down to a crawl. The 61 would be much like the 70 I have, the nose weight to balance the plane. My Slowpoke will hover will yours?
Victor.

Hi,

I had a few engines sitting around so I assemebled the SlowPoke and checked the CG for each engine. I started with a .40LA, then a OS .50 FX and then a OS 70 four stroke. To my surprise the OS .70 balanced right on the money with no additional nose wieght having to be added. I decided on a 13X4 prop with the .70. Hopefully, this weekend I'll be able to see how the model flies. I know throttle management will be necessary.

Since I live in the high desert at 2600 asl and with the high temperatures during the summer the air density can be as high as 7000 feet, I'm hoping I'm not turing this model into a rocket.

The only concern I have is the control surface throws seem to a bit low on dual rates. Does anyone have recommendatins for the throws?

Regards,
Chuck

Chuck the Slowpoke has given me lots of enjoyment. I put an OS 70 Surpass II on the nose. I have a 2700 NIMH 4.8 volt battery so I can spent the whole day flying the Slowpoke. The throws are: What ever you can get out of the ailerons as much rudder as you can get and 5/8 up and down elevator at the most. The manual says 7/16 elevator but I have 5/8 and it works. For sure start with 7/16. The 1/4 for low rates on the elevator fly's the plane fine. With the 70 Surpass the Slowpoke comes alive. Touch and goes are a blast!
Just my personal view...The 13X4 is not a good idea...13X6 will keep you around 10,000. 14X4 but I'm not sure why. The Slowpoke will fly just as slow with an LA 40 as a Surpass 70 II I've used 14X6 and for a while I had a 11X7 3 bladed prop there all good!

Victor,

Thanks for the response. I'll start with the 13X6 prop and see what happens.

Chuck

Mine flies OK with a piped Rossi 45. Still got a lot of lead in the nose though.
