Default EC Revisiting Safety Code Rule 9

The change to rule number 9 of the Safety Code may be revisited by the AMA Executive Council at the next meeting the first weekend in February. An item to consider removal of new wording has been placed on the agenda. The Safety Committee has also scheduled discussion of the item.

If you have constructive input on the rule, it might be prudent to contact your District VP. The contact info is on the AMA web site.

I sent a message a week or so ago. I got a "Thanks for your input" response. I hope that they decide to leave such things up to the local clubs.

I have no problem with a club having majority rule saying "No... (blah blah blah)", but for the AMA to actually mandate that a specific maneuver is outlawed is silly.

I hope they drop the tail touch rule.

A big thanks to Sandy Frank for helping me and Save3D to get this on the Agenda. I hoped to be able to attend to present it, but work is getting busy again and I don't think I can. I submitted a written defense of the motion to remove the offending wording, but someone to verbally defend and answer questions would be better. If anyone with good things to say has the ability to be there it would be really great!!!!!

I really think we could be able to change this unreasonable restriction. We have gotten more attention than some thought we would. Let's hope. eh?

Something to keep in mind at least as far as I think.

Rule #9 does not just apply to 3D pilots, I have heard the helicopter guys talking about blade scuffing (ie inverted touch and go) and helicopter tail touches. I fully agree in that the wording is poor and very generalized.

Very True Lom. I'm avoiding the subject of others so as to not get acused (again) of trying to point them in annother dirrection. But there are plenty of heli and even circle flyers affected by this.
