Default Giant OMP Engine?

I Know this has been beat up a bit but I have a
Saito 180
BME 44
OS 1.60
and I live / fly at 4700 ft. What would you guys do?I like the idea of the gasser on it, and not a big weight penalty if I considered the Moki 2.10.... Use one of these or break down and get the Moki 2.10?

If you go to the OMP web site they now have a video of the GS540 hovering with the OS160 on a pipe. It appeared to be plenty of power. It pulls out of a hover with authority. Although i went ahead and bought the Moki 2.10 I'm convinced that the 160 is probably a better choice. less weight, lower fuel consumption and plenty of power to pull this bird around. My recommendation is keep it light.

OOOPs - I forgot to mention this is the old kit - not the foam fuse- so it could come out at 12 - 13 lbs.....

In that case. I think the BME 44 would be an awesome combo.

Im at 610' above sea level. We have 2 of these flying. I have a 210 Moki the other has a Saito 180. I like the Saito better. Throttle transition with the Saito would be hard to beat. The Saito plane is lighter, to offset balance we used One rudder servo vs. 2 with the Moki.. If I were you, use the Saito. It pulls out of a hover effortlessly..Sounds great also...walt

That's surprising to hear. There were one or 2 people in the large OMP thread that were not thrilled with the 180. Maybe it is just the difference in elevation?

What prop are you running on the big Moki?

Just to add to the discussion I was wondering which would be better overall for the Giant OMP540?

An OS1.60 with Nelson pipe/muffler or a lighter end gasser such as the ZDZ.40? I know the ZDZ would be 10+ ounces more offset by the power. How about transition speed with the heavier setup?
Thanks

klotz. Try the Zinger 20x6. Great throttle response. Seems to be the preferred combo.

All engines have been used successfully but due to the altitude you will definately be at a dissatvantage. That's why OMP recommended the BME. Here's the ticket to try since you already have the engines: First go with the OS 160 with the Jerry Smith pipe accessory. If you are not satisfied with the performance then switch to the BME since it's already a beam mount configuration.
