You can buy a Menace kit from Mark Shoppe. He can be reached at (570) 769-2760.

Default How does the Menace knife edge?

I really like the looks of the Menace. I also just discovered the .32 engine. What an awesome engine. I have a 3.5lbs plane that it will pull around with plenty of authority for 10 minutes easy on 3oz of fuel.
The 3.5lbs plane that I'm flying is a Dazzler fuse with a 44" Hershey bar wing (it's a slow fun fly wing with large control surfaces, not sure what plane it was made for). I have a Morris Knife with a .46 size engine. Flies good, but not near the authority of the .32 (and on half the fuel). The only problem with my small/light fun fly is that it won't knife edge although the Dazzler rudder seems plenty large.

Does the Menace knife edge?

What other kind of 3D will it do?

It does a pretty good knife edge and all the 3D stuff you can through at it..... Flat spins all day long.... Climbing inverted flat spins.... Hovers... Waterfalls... elevators... Loops 1 ft. off the deck!!

I absolutely love my menace. Mine came out on the heavy side of 4lbs even. I have a OS 32 SX (great engine) that pulls out of a hover slowly but it pulls it out. It hovers around 1/2 throttle. The next one I built will have to be lighter. I would like to get the weight at 3.5lbs.

I am working on getting my hovering down lower. Sat. I was hovering it about eye level. My problem is I can't hold the plane in one spot. It like to move across the sky. (Does anybody have any tips on how to hold it steady.) I can hold alitude easily though. Next time I go, I will bring my digital camera and have someone take a picture of me hovering about eye level.

A .46fx would be too much weight, too much vibration, and too much torque for a menace. I have flown 2 Menaces to death literally wore them out, I know quite a few people who have had a lot more than 2 menaces, none of them would recomend a .46fx. If you have to have a menace, or a Minus from Turner performance products, an engine under 10 ozs is what you are looking for. Webra speed.32, Os.32sx, TT Pro.36, Os fp.40, OsLa.40,.46, There are a few more light weight motors out there that would work, but these are a reference for what would work on a menace.

I agree, a 46 anything will pull this plane apart, and would kill the overrall performance of this plane. Just built it light. As stated above mine weighs 4lbs even. and my 32sx flys the snot out of it. I just pulls out of a hover aggressively, but not as quick as I would like. I hovers it around 1/2 throttle. I have all standard BB servos.. Get the weight down to around 3.5lbs and it would probably shoot out of a hover w/ a 32sx. IMO this is the best funfly plane built, except for knifeedges. It is knife-edge-able, just takes some practice.

As soon as I get back from vaction, I will probably built me another one, and have it covered and ready to fly. That way when I totally destroy or wear out the one I am flying I will have a back up.

Default one on the board

I have one on the board now
my last one took a beating at the last three funfly's
at one the vertical stab tore off on a high speed dive and the plane came spinning down. when it landed i lost two bays on the wing. I repaired it and made it though the next funfly which was the following weekend but that day was a 25mph crosswing so the plane was a little over worked. yesterday was another funfly and the plane made it through the day but after the day I was doing some croud pleasing and POOFFF the wing folded on the repair.
I took Top Gun in the funfly but take a look at what I went home with.
these planes are great. there was a 5mph dead on wind so for the spot landing I would harrier it right down.
there is always someone asking me what plane that is after first fllght of the day.
it's a good feeling.
I"ll post photos on the new one in progress tomorrow.

Bugs,

Does this plane have a problem with the constrution or wood as msot ofthe replies to the psot i have read mentions , that a quick jerk or action can affect the plane , is that true .

the plane is strong.
but the plane is also built light with competition in mind. so it can actually take a good hit and it's easilly repairabel but eventually the plane will go. which actually is a good thing because each one you build you build better.
You will not jerk this plane apart in the air with a .32 engine. and you will hardly ever be flying at full throttle unless you are pointed straight up.
use the carbon fiber on the main spars though, it helps alot when you hit down onthe wing tip.
good luck .

.for ailerons I have 9102's
for elevator I have hitec 645mg
for throttle and rudder I have micro servos.
Do you think the rudder servo should be enough at 30oz of tork.
it's a futaba 3002

Default last one

I don't have a weight I'm hoping around 3.5lbs. a friend has my scale. but the high tork servos are heavy. I used lite film on the control serfaces but I don't know if I should use in on mywing.
the seaguls drop sea shells on our black top all the time which rips our covering when we are taxing. I may go to 6vlt anyone have 6vlt on this plane?
This one is strong. I put carbon everywhere. I made many mistakes on my second one and it ultimately cost me the plane.

This one looks pretty good!! I don't have a tail wheel on mine and it taxi's pretty good... I'm on a all grass run way....

You gonna do pull-pull on this one? I've got a HS 81 MG for rudder control on my Taco.... It's enough...... You might get by with it.....

Default pull

I will do a pull pull on the elevator again in fact the elevator servo is already set in place. I put a Dubro long arm on it which will give me sick speed and throw.
I would like to mount pull pull the rudder also . that will be the last thing I do so i haven't decided yet.
I spoke with mark shope the other night onthe phone and askedhim what the prupose of the profiles were. I though they were there to reinforce the boom. he told me that this plane was designed for a spacific class and the two wheel and the profile were part of the requirements.
I may leave the bottom profile off. The top profile I will put on. It's like the only place to grap the plane by. Although sometimes I grap the plane by the wing tip and walk it out that way. I even like to launch it that way.
this weekend before I totaled the last one I made a limbo pass and directly on the other side of the rope I put the plae into a hover. it was so cool.
I just wish this plane had more prop wash for the slow flight rolls. the 10/5 just can't do it.
can't wait for the next funfly.
I think i'm going to have my wife start the next menace as a back up.

Here are the preliminary numbers.
tail section finished with wing and servos 1lb 6.7oz
engine, exhause, landing gear, radio, battery, 1lb 5.6oz
nuts and bolts 1.1oz
the only thing not in there is the contron rods for the ailerons and what ever system I go with for the rudder. I think I will go with pull pull for that though so minimal weight.
my goal was 3.5lbs or under and It looks like i'm on track.
right now the total is 2lb 13.4oz
with all the xtras i should finish at just over three pounds.

Default wing

I did use the nelson lite film for the top of the wing. on the bottom I will be changing the color so I will use monocote for that half of the wing. it will stand up to the seashells a little better
