Default Sledge Question

I was wondering where some of you are setting the CG on your sledges. I have mine at the point shown on the plans, but I am wondering if it would be easier to do some of the 3D stuff if it was moved back a little.

Thanks,

Steve

I think the CG on the plans is a safe starting point. I am going to move mine back a little at a time.

Default RE: Sledge Question

Poncaflyer, I made the airplane to 3D with that CG, that is where I fly mine and it does everything. I have tried further back, and personally I did not like it. The plans point will yield a plane that will fly upright or inverted with no elevator input, this assumes everything else is correct. If your airplane flies like that, it is the perfect CG to yield the best all around 3D. Now, some say go tailheavy, this is not to mean that the airplane should climb while inverted, that is too far back. Most say tailheavy because for years we have all flown our planes slightly nose heavy. With these newer generation 3D planes, the best CG is attained at the point where the airplane will fly upright or inverted with virtually no elevator to stay level. A somewhat tailheavy airplane may harrier better, but watch out for the possible lack or recovery time. Everything is give and take, I suggest that CG because I have tested other locations and that point gives the best all around performance, but not necessarily the best point for a certain maneuver. Have I helped or confused you? I have gotten a bit wordy here, but the CG question comes up often, maybe this dissertation will help others. BTW, this is reasonably true for most any 3D/aerobatic planes. You may always email me at [email protected] Thanks, Jeff Williams
