ORIGINAL: ChuckAuger

You just have to Email Troy at www.b-p-p.com. He always shows the 1020/15 as out of stock, but he gets them in and sold so quick he never updates his website. He might have them, you just have to ask. I got the Cobri gearbox from www.e-flightline.com but B-P-P has them listed as in stock, just not yet on the site. The 1020/14 is always in stock, you could run one of them with the 12 tooth pinion (that's the smallest that will fit on the Lehner shaft) and like a 76 tooth spur, and have almost identical performance to the 1020/15 and a 12 tooth pinion/ 70 tooth spur.

I would not run anything but the Cobri gearbox on this motor...just not worth it.

4000X11.1=44000/5.83=7615 This is the 1020/15 at 4000Kv on 11.1V nominal and 12 tooth pinion/70 tooth spur (My Set Up)

4286X11.1=47575/6.33=7515 This is the 1020/14 at 4286Kv on 11.1V nominal and 12 tooth pinion/76 tooth spur (In Stock Set Up)

Of course the pack voltage drops when you hit the throttle, those numbers are just for comparison. That is the theoretical no-load RPM.

That's really close, actually a hair easier on the packs with the 1020/14 at 6.33:1

And as a side note... I turn the 12X6 APC SF prop at 86% of the above calculated RPM. Of course, the voltage is at about 10.1 when I tached it and all, so this is not a measure of system efficiency, just an interesting tidbit.

As another side note.. I took my measured RPM/Theoretical No-Load RPM at 10.1V and got 94% efficiency. And that is thru the gearbox.

Can you imagine hearing all that technical jargon in his Margarita vioce?

Yeah, a Razor 350 in a D gear with a 12X6 GWS SF on 3S lipos will pretty much smoke a 2212/34 on the same set up.

Here are the pictures.

Deal with the fuselage: Home Depot stopped selling the 3/4" EPS foam 2 weeks ago, right before I needed it. So i built the fuselage like a Sledge. I built an inside out of 6mmx6mm pieces of white depron, and then covered it with 2 pieces of 6mm depron. It turned out to be superlight, although I still need to sand the edges of the fuse to make it look good. I'm guessing that the plane weighs 3.5oz right now with everything except covering. The covering should be here Tuesday or Wednesday, and then i'll be all set.

1- The 6mmx6mm inside of the fuse.

2- The ouside sheeting for the fuse.

3- Cut out for the motor mount stick.

4- The new Razor 350.

1- Depron control surfaces.

2- Finished wing.

3- Planes pieces put together.

4- Motor mount, also shows unsightly edges of fuselage.

Overall, this plane turned out great to far. Nothing took a lot of time, and everything half-assed. And it still turned out awesome!

Plane will proably be ready for flight next weekend. So check back then

Here's my latest E Taco.... Jeremy Chin came over and gave me a hand... He started framing it at 10 PM Thursday night. Finished by 1 am.... I finished up another bird and then setup the servo rails and covered half of this one by 5 am... Grabbed 2 hours sleep... Then headed off for small. Got back to the hotel by 10 pm. Finished fitting and covering by 1:00 am. Took it out to the field Saturday and stuffed the gear in it and flew it by lunch time!!!

All I can say it this combo freakin' rocks!! All the "Auger" mods really helped bring the weight down.... Here's the specs:

Fat Free Taco with Auger mods. NO sheeting, CF tube and nix ply motor mount.
AUW: 29 oz.
Motor: AXI 2814
ESC: Jeti 40 amp Advanced
Battery: 2600 3 cell Lipo iRate Cells- 10C continuous discharge with 15C spikes.
Servo's HS-81s, HS-60's
Prop: 11 x 4.7 APC slow flyer.

Paul, I am absolutely sick that I didn't fly that plane in Little Rock! [:@] Gordo has told me how sweet it was! This is really looking good! When are you going to have E-Taco kits available?

I've got regular taco kits available now..... I've got 3 e-conversion kits available for an extra $8.00.... That should give you everything you need to build an e-taco....

You know I'm totally in for the eTaco. I'm gonna wait a few weeks to order it, I've got several other projects and I've been trying to keep the $ within reason. My plan is to order the motor/batteries first.

Paul, I'm thinking of using the first motor you used with the lightened airframe. That should do well eh?

Or you could do like ol' money bags Auger and buy the most expensive motor setup you can find!!!

I think that original motor would have worked pretty good with the lightened airframe... Plus it would be a little more tail heavy... However.. That motor doesn't have the reverse mounting setup on it....

Default RE: Electric Tacos

Actually, the cost is hardly any different..

Jeti 40 Advance $109.00, 30 Advance $85.00.

Axi 2814/12 and the Advance 30 Combo is $175.00, but you have the Advance $40, so add $24 to that and you get $199...

Exactly the same price as the Lehner 1020/15 CC P 35 combo I'm running. The only added cost is the bling bling gearbox, my total from the second Lehner set up was $239. That is the SS pinion installed and connectors installed on the motor/ESC, prop adapter, everything, and includes shipping.

So for $40 more, I can swing a 12X6 APC SF at 6550. And a few ounces lighter.

So yeah, $40 well spent IMHO.

With a Razor 350, if it comes in at less than 14 oz, it'll be cool. More than that, you might want to re-group.

Man, I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO far behind on this electric stuff!

Paul, is there a reason that you were running the 40 amp ESC instead or the 30 amp that is in the combo price?

Chuck, where did you buy your setup?

Does anyone have a school for all this $^%^????????????? [:@]

Sorry for the questions guys!

Default RE: Electric Tacos

I'm just bustin' on ya, dude.

I know I come across as "Anti-Axi" and all,, but I really think that once guys try EITHER power source on a super-light Taco, they will wonder *** glow is all about. And my goal of miniaturizing other beloved profiles down to 36" span and 25 oz will open up a wide variety of airframes. Guys, you don't need all that wood on a smooth E-Powered plane. Light is right, and either of these power systems will give you a great performing plane. I know it's hard to comprehend..you will just have to witness one to understand.

Money..yeah, there is some of that involved. But not having to ever worry about so many of the engine out in a hover, engine sags in a hover, what fuel, what plug, what prop, what muffler, what if the weather changes, electric starters, chicken sticks, fuel jugs, greasy airplanes, ni-starters, buying fuel, buying plugs, and on and on and on.... You don't have to cover all the bare wood, don't have to lap your seams, don't have to fuel proof your plane.

Now, having said all that....you gotta have some good batteries and a good charger. Period.

Then you just have to decide if you want the light and more powerful system that uses a gearbox, or a heavier, less powerful system that doesn't use a gearbox. Just like glow engines, the light and powerful system is generally more expensive than the heavier, less powerful system.

BUT!! Just like glow, either one WILL provide extremely nice power!! And that is the key. Whichever route you might choose will still have all the advantages of the electric over the glow.

These are just power systems based on a .25 sized glow. But they will out perform a .25 sized glow plane built to withstand the pounding a glow engine puts them through.. Not just out perform them, but make people do a double take.

And I'm not saying everybody go E. Just that the stuff is coming, and coming fast.

I'm pretty optimistic about E power, especially on planes in this size.

If you are a die hard glow guy, don't tell me and Pauly we are dumb-asses. I have spent years understanding and optimizing glow engines, I know glow.. This is a whole lot better, and it's getting closer every day.
