Default Engine Trouble

I have a problem. My Webra 50 runs great, except for one problem. It always want to lean out a lot. It weird. Cause when i get ready to tune it,i tune it, and then i pinch the line and make sure i set it right, and the pinch test works out. But anyway, in the air, it ALWAYS leans out really far and the engine goes to idle like its gonna quit, then i save it by throttling back. The i let it fly for 3-4 seconds then go to a high throttle, then it leans out and keeps doing that. I richen it up a ton and no difference. I think its a problem with the carburator, and it not drawing the fuel it needs. Look at the pictures and tell me what you think please.

Sounds like it's sucking air. Webras have an O-Ring on the needle, it might be wearing out. Try putting some fuel tubing over the needle valve and see if that helps. Also make sure the carb is seated in the engine good and tight.

Double check for air leaks at the carb o-ring and backplate. Also make sure you don't have a pinhole in the fuel tubing anywhere (check the fuel tank stopper and clunk line also). This sounds like a classic case of air leak.

Have you checked your low end? You might have a problem there.... The Webra wont transition very well if your low end isn't set.

It's not transition, it transitions amazing with a 12.25x3.75. I replaced the fuel tubing everywhere, and checked for leaks and found none. I found a different problem, airbubbles in the fuel line. Everytime the bubble hits the carb, it leans out a lot. I tried adding more padding to the fuel thing, but no dice. Air bubbles still keep coming. I really didn't use the right padding. I used regular foam cushion and some carpet madding. Should i get real foam rubber?

The carb on there isn't the actual Webra carb. My engine genius friend i bought it from, took the helicopter stuff off of it and converted it to an airplane engine. He didn't have the original carb, and the carb on it is pretty bootleg, even though its not the problem, i think im gonna go over there tonight and get a different carb, and have him look at my setup.

You're tank may be rubberbanded down too tight... Loosen up the rubber bands some... When they are too tight, the vibration causes a lot of foaming.

Good point Paul, i have four rubber bands on there, and the tank is big and sqaure, that is quite possible.

What fuel do you use in your Webra Paul. I have Cool Power 10%, and im running out of it. I need new fuel and was just wondering what you use.

I like the stuff from Cooper fuels... it's 10% nitro and 20% oil.... Send a PM to Fuelman and see if he can hook you up... If you can't get that, get some Byron's 10% nitro/ 20% oil.... The run much better with 20% oil... The lower nitro helps em run cooler.

That cool power stuff is all synthetic... No castor.. I don't like it very much.

I can't get access to either of those fuels. I can get Omega, Cool Power, or Powermster. I also have the helicopter head on mine, so it doesn't get hot at all. Maybe 100 degrees after a 10 minute flight.

Just get something with 20% oil that has some castor in it.

Your main problem has nothing to do with your fuel... (oops, just noticed this question wasn't by the original post contributor...)

You said you replaced all the fuel lines; did you check the fuel clunk and stopper? Is the prop balanced? Does the carb have a good seat in the crankcase?

Ya, i checked that stuff TNRabbit. I found the problem too, it was fuel foaming causing air bubbles in the fuel line.

About the fuel, i was just wondering what they use. I know that's not the problem.

It only happens now when the fuel is low. I need to weight the clunker down more. Any ideas on how to do that?

By the way, this plane hoovers gr8!!!!!11

You can use a nut over the fuel tube right where the clunk goes in...

I can't find a bolt that will fit over the tubing and fi through the hole in the tank. Maybe i'm just retarted.

Actually... You'd be better off just getting a Hayes tank and being done with the whole thing..... The tubing they use in the hayes tank flexes enough that your clunk is always just a hair away from the bottom of the tank.... Very cool indeed....

Otherwise, just grind the corners off the nut...

Scole,
I'll be out in Central NY next week. I'll be making a visit in Canandaiguia (Rochester area) on 1-2 July and then off to Syracuse area. If Fairport is anywhere near either place, I'll be happy to hook up with you. I'll bring some Pro Bro 10% if you think we can hook up.

I agree with the above, fuel is not the problem, fuel delivery is. Once you eliminate the air bubbles, you'll probably be just fine. sounds like a vibration issue or air leak or a combination of both.

I am 3 miles away from Rochester. Wanna bring some fuel to house? How much is it a gallon?

Scole,
Beleve it or not but a few drops of Armorall in a gal of fuel will just about eliminate the foaming.
