I think I just found my winter project. Has anybody flown one yet? If so, what's the verdict? If the BME 55xtreme never materialises I will be deciding between the zdz 50ng and the DA50.

We only started selling them 1 or 2 weeks ago.
I can chime in hear if you like. Just think of a scale Edge with 1900 Sq Inches (that's 33%). Now take out 10 lbs of weight. Enlarge the control surfaces and make the fuse a profile. How do you think it would fly?

Well John McNees and I fly ours all the time here in Dayton and anyone is welcome to come by if you are in town to fly any of the OMP planes. It's mostly like flying a 35% fun fly in that it's big, it's very light, and it's very very soft on the wing. This means it's very stable also and easy to fly 3D with. My next dream is to put a smoke system on it as I always wanted a big funfly with a smoke system. I'm getting excited just thinking about it. As Dion says though, first run kits are just now shipping so there should be some in the building stages now.

DA 50 on both the ones we have here. One has an inverted pitts muffler and is a really nice installation. The flame bird has a canister setup which requires a bit more modification to the fuselage. Not hard and plenty of room for sure but you simply have to build a cavity to shield from the internal fuselage area. The canister/header combo DA offers really allows peak performance from this engine. The Pitts muffler seems to be more restrictive although I think it could be improved be trimming some of the exhaust stacks a little.

Thanks. I will probably end up going with the DA on the inverted pitts. Unless of corse the 55xtreme should come out. How was balancing with the DA/Pitts combo?

With the pitts muffler balance was easy with no additional weight. With the header/canister setup, cg was moved aft and I had to move batteries and stuff up front. So like most Edges theyare inherently tail heavy meaning you have to move everything forward to balance. So far no additional weight added on either setup though!

We've sold about 20-25 so far so I know there's several out there. Plus I've had folks email me with pictures and questions on setups. Remember many builders just don't use the internet. Keep poking and I'm sure they will start showing up. The OMP Hybrid (maybe two) will be at the Nashville PROBRO meet and the upcoming DOGS meet here in Dayton Labor day weekend. All ProBro get a free driver's pass to fly it. Others have to pay a dollar! LOL
