I think I'm going to use a 6v NiCad in my OMP 47" Yak. I've never used a 6v pack in a smaller plane like this with standard servos. What size do you guys usually use? I'm thinking around 700 mAh.....sound about right for weight/duration?

RadicalRC sells a nice little 5 cell AAA NiMh pack that many of the Bros use. I just got in two more for future projects. It's a 720 mah pack. I think it's $14 with connector and 2$ shipping. Dave is a good guy to deal with.

I've used all 6v for quite a while. And now I'm all NiMH as well. You can choose (this is how I see it) 1. Same weight and almost 2x the flight time, or 2. 1/2 the weight, same flight time. Since I like to fly for long periods, like all day frequently, I go for greater capacity. I just picked up some 1800 mAh 6v NiMH that weigh 5 oz. Me Likey!!!

Yeah I need to break down and get a charger/cycler for NiMH batteries. Right now I only have the stock NiCad charger that comes with Hitec gear. Which charger do you use with yours and how do you like it?

I got a Triton for LiPos and I have used any of my other chargers since, for anything! I have a Super Brain that always worked fine, but I just keep it for a backup.

Making sure I'm reading your post right.......do you mean you have NOT used any of your other chargers since and you use the Triton for everything? Does it have a AC adapter or does it only run off 12v?

I have changed to 6v on all my planes.....well worth it. The packs at Radical RC are the best. You will Like that Yak....just finished mine flew it for the first this weekend and LOVE IT.

Yep, I haven't hooked up annother charger to any battery since then. Oh, except my NI starters. And it would do that too. There are better chargers from what I've heard for any one purpose, but for all around stuff, I LOVE the Triton. I have lots of high capacity NiMH batteries and the Triton handles them well, very reassuring. I like to see what goes into the battery. And the cycling is nice, every few weeks I check my important batteries to be sure the're good. That's also ver comforting. And it does a nice job on the LiPos too.

But I will give this disclaimer: There are WAY more knowledgeable guys than me. That is the opinion of a guy who just started getting into electric flight, and just for over a year I've had NiMH.

I'm no expert either but I will chime in and say that I LOVE my Triton. For my money it can't be beat as an all around charger. I use it for Nicd's and NiMH. I haven't charged any Li Po's with it yet because I haven't built my foamy but I've heard they work well for that too. BTW, I bought the optional thermal probe with mine. Just seemed like a good idea at the time.
