The next steps were to sand down the fuse get all the casing edges flush with the sheeting, the laminate then lite ply doublers to the front area of the fuse...

Looks like you had to shim in the engine rails some to fit the YS 140. I'm happy to see you did this equally so the thrust line is the same. Good boy.....good boy...LOL. Just teasing. The foam is cut default for the OS 160 width and the instructions tell you to adjust for your engine width.

Yes I was very careful to get the engine dead center, the fuse is amazingly sturdy considering how light it is, good engineering Mike!
Here I am constructing the vertical stabilizer it is made of stick s then sheeted very straight forward.

RE: Building the Yak 54 - 79"
I havent had much time to work on the plane this week so I thought I would tell you what I am going to put in it, the motor will be a YS140 DZ, for servos I will be using 5945's on the rudder and elevator, the ailerons will have 5925's the battery will probably be a 1800ma (depending on balancing needs).
I will be using a unusual fuel tank because of the nature of the engine, it has a fuel pump but it draws fuel rather than adding pressure to the tank, so I will be using a tetrus model 18OZ lined tank this tank has a thick plastic liner that collapses around the fuel supply line so there is NO air in the system at all.....

I finally got a little time to work on the plane, I framed the rudder up it came out great very easy, just make sure when you dont cut up the hard wood pieces instead of the correct balsa pieces ( I almost did this but realized my mistake just before i made a cut).
Notice how huge the rudder is at 11 inches I get the feeling this will be the ultimate 3-D machine!!!

Yo 1Fish,
You remember what they always say: "measure twice, cut once", or in your case "check the wood type twice, cut once". LOL
Keep up the good work, we want to see your covering job in a couple weeks!

RE: Building the Yak 54 - 79"
OK I know I havent been building much on the plane lately, but with Xmas the kids and work, well you know the story........
Today I had a little time to lay up the framing and sheeting of the fixed horizontal stabilizer it is basic stick construction, I used gorilla glue on the sheeting for ultimate strength, CA on the balsa framing, and on the hardwood piece (its along the rear edge where the hinges are attached) I used 30 min Epoxy I was very careful to use the Epoxy sparingly so as not to add much weight...

Here I am checking the fit of the horizontal stab, it is a tight fit but it seems very good, the fuse is actually starting to look like a real plane now, I am getting excited and cant wait to get to the last few steps....

Dion you have any more info on the hardware packs yet? Like what will be included and price etc? Did you guys just put together for the larger planes or for the smaller stuff as well?

Man talk about a long term build you would think I was a government contractor or something!! Here I am building the elevator halves its a stick build, simple and straight forward, just make sure you are using the right wood
I use a thin CA glue to construct the framing then go back and fill all joints with wood glue this gives a very light but extremely durable stick type construction that unlike CA only joints, can take a hit or two while adding a very negotiable amount of weight...

I just wanted to show you guys a comparison with my D/A 50cc powered Dave Patrick Extra 330L 28%, the control surfaces are MUCH larger on the OMP model this will be a 3D monster for sure!!!!

Yea Builflycrash I think he did too, but what can I say I work a 60-75 hour work week I just dont have much time to build.......
Oh well on with the building, I am starting the wings they are a little tricky because you have to use the same blueprint for both sides not too difficult but you must remember to put the root rib the correct side up and instal the servo rails on the correct side of the wing, the other thing you need to pay attention to is the root angle inrespect to the spars in one picture I show checking the angle this is the left wing when I build the right wing I will turn the rib angle guide over..
