Ultimate Profile KIT?
I was looking at the omp website under kits and it's showing the ultimate Profile as a KIT? I thought this was coming out as an ARF first? Thanks

RE: Ultimate Profile KIT?
We've had too many requests for a bipe kit, much more then for an ARF.
One little detail I will let you in on is that it's an almost all laser cut kit.

Everything will be launched on the website tonite/this afternoon. Including movies, photos and all the information you need to know. The only thing we don't have yet is the price. Since the entire kit is almost all laser cut, it's going to fall under new pricing.

It looks like a great airplane for the Saito .100 4s
Do the wings break down for transport ?
Do you think you will be able to ship in time for the holidays? If so, I will have to print out a couple of pages from the web site to leave around the house for wife to find

Looks great! As long as it isn't out of my price range, I'll get one. One thing I noticed, The header tab on the website says 79"Yak 54.
Minor detail I have a couple Saito 91s would they be sufficient? Realize that I'm used to your 65" Yak on a YS 110 when you answer that question.

RE: Ultimate Profile KIT?
The Saito .91 will fly it fine, perfect fit for the plane. It's 1/2 pound or more less then the 65" Yak. You know as well as I do that the Yak doesn't "need" a YS 1.10 on it. But it is a damn nice match. The video is with an MDS .68 and you know that Saito .91 can pull harder.
Thanks for the detail on the page. Been juggling a whole bunch today!

Oh, I can finally transplant my Saito 91 from the Funtana 40 now there's a suitable target. The Saito 91 does pull 11 lb of static thrust on 30% nitro swinging 15x4W @ 9800 rpm, at least that's what the force gauge says.

Tram it's like a shockflyer and brushless debate. You know the sp280 brushed motor that comes with it WILL FLY IT FINE! And yes I have first hand experience on this matter so say what you want But now go slap a brushless motor on a shocky and you've got a monster. It's just one of those things I reckon. The 65" Yak with a .91 4C is not going to be awesome. It will probably fly it but not magically. Just go grab a YS 1.10 and get it over with LOL. Or maybe a .91 2cycle motor would even be better than the Saito .91, but it is hard for me to say. A saito 1.00 or even better the Saito 1.20. But ultimately the YS 1.10 is going to come out on top every time.

Dion you know those Super Tigre motors I keep yapping about? The ones I get here by me in ZA for so "cheap". I think a .91 2C Super Tigre is going to find a home on one of these real soon!
Three cheers for OMP! Hip Hip! Hooray!..........LOL

RE: Ultimate Profile KIT?
Not too familiar with ST engines. I see them at the field, but honestly I've never seen one on any fun flyer.
Just compare the specs to the OS engines @ osengines.com
We reccomend the .46 on the 40's, .91 on the 60's, and OS 1.60 on 80's.
Now with the 65" Yak the .91 OS is strong and flies well with stock muffler. On the 80" Edge/Yak the OS 1.60 would fly marginally with stock pipe, that's why we recommend the tuned pipe. We are coming out with an OMP Tuned Pipe for OS 1.60 real soon. It will rival any tuned pipe out there for sport flying.
So take that into consideration when comparing the OS numbers against ST. If the ST is heavier then the OS 1.60 and it's the same class motor, no good. If it's stronger but heavier, then it's ok ... and so on.
Now regarding the Bipe, it's 6.5 pounds with 2 wings. It's more then a 1/2 pound lighter then the Yak, but it has better lift for sport flying, which comes at a price called drag. But still, 1/2 pound or more off the 65" Yak is a lot by our standards. The video it's flying with MDS .68. Probably close to "mid" marginal, have to wait for Mike to tune in. So a 2 stroke or even 4 stroke .91 would tear this plane across the sky.
Heck I would bet that the new Saito .82 might fly this plane well. I've seen that motor pull a 6 lb. UCANDO .46 from 0-500 ft in about 8 seconds.

RE: Ultimate Profile KIT?
Super Tigre 91
Displacement: 14.73cc
Output: BHP / R.P.M.- 2.5 @ 14 800
Weight w/ Muffler: 763g
OS Displacement: 0.912 cu in (15.0cc)
Output: 2.8 bhp (ps) @ 15,000 rpm
Weight: 19.3 oz (550g) Probably without muffler?
MDS .68
Weight: 18.24 oz. - 24.64 oz. w Muffler (X28.35 to get grams) =689grams
Cylinder: ABC
Crank Thread: 5/16" x 24
Propeller: 12 x 6 ?
RPM: 2,500 x 18,000
HP: 2.21
Reckon the ST .91 should pull it off. And well if I can cough up the little extra for the OS .91 then I all is magic!

...a while back there was a lot of question why OMP was going to ARF this airplane first before it became a kit if it even would be come a kit! Glad to see OMP producing this as a KIT! hats off again OMP! I'll have to add this one to my wish list!

RE: Ultimate Profile KIT?
Well the plane weighs 6.5 lbs. I would say that the Saito .72 is a tad too weak. I'm sure it would fly ok for sport flying, but not 3D. The plane has only been test flown with the MDS .68 and it flies very well as seen in the video. But I'd say the .91 class 4 stroke would be the way to go.
We are also putting hardware packs together for all the profile kits. We should have them ready by the time the kit is ready to ship.

RE: Ultimate Profile KIT?
STLpilot-does this bipe have a lot of roll coupling with the application of rudder?(like during knife edge when you have to use opposite aileron) i heard this can be reduced with the location of the stab. to reduce this tendency, would you raise or lower the stab from the thrust line?
