We are building our 2nd something extra. A radio in the pits destroyed the first one. Has anyone out there put a .60 2 stroke size engine in one of these. I know the model calls for a .40-.46 but I think the extra zip would be cool. Can the structure of the plane handle it?

I thought about putting a .60 size engine on a Sig SE I had on loan from a buddy when I found out about the Irvine .53. The .53 weighed less and was PLENTY strong enough to haul the plane around. The SE is a fantastic flyer and most folks here seem to recommend a smaller 2 stroke for the model. Good luck in whatever you decide to do!!!

A fellow at our field has one with an os 61. He rips it around like a pattern plane. So far everything has held together. Mine had a TT 46 and it was a good combo also. If you are building from the kit and take precautions to build it strong you should be ok. The next one I build will have a Webra speed 50 for power and light weight.

I have a OS .50 in my SE.
hovers under half throttle, flys around under 1/8th
right now im running a 11x4 prop and it doesnt scream but it hovers nice pulls out without missing a beat.
i dont know what a .60 would do in it but I might start worrying about the weight.

My dad has an ASP .61 with a tuned pipe on his, not usre of prop or fuel but it's pretty rippin'. DOn't know about hovering on aerobatics, but he had to put like 4 oz. in the back of it. heavy up front! We don't fly it too much though, so I can't help you out too much more that that, but it's got wayyyyyy more power than it needs!

Glad you like that engine and that you gave it a good home. MVVS engines are incredible - they are truly a best kept secret.
I have more fun with my SE than should be allowed. My favorite is to delay the short take off run just a bit and rotate straight up and go till it's a speck then nose over cut to idle and roll pointing straight down till your scared. The plane is amazing. I even started practicing the sportsman class pattern maneuvers with it. I can "stay in the box" no problem!

I had a YS 63 in my arf SE and it flew awesome. I took the engine out and am in the process of installing a Irvine 72 in mine, just because I want to see what will happen.
The 4-stroker was quite an engine. It had plenty of power to do just about anything, I just got tired of dragging around an extra gallon of fuel just for that plane, so I am trying something new.

ive got the arf at 5 lbs with a 46fx. Hover at 1/2 throttle and will do most 3d maneuver's. waterfalls, walls, harriers are a little ugly but hey. I had a prob holding it in a hover. Could only hold it for 10 sec. Well i got a OMP540 profile and could hover it the first flight no prob. I looked at the tail and thought the se tail was too small. So im rebuilding it. Im putting the profile tail on it witch is a little bigger. If you click on the www at the bottom of my post you can see the progress.
There is a guy at my field that has one with a os 61. It flys like a pattern ship but NO 3D.
I would defanitly recommend a light power plant. os 46 or 50, ervine 53, etc...etc...
Hope this helps
