Maybe Im the odd one out here but I dont really mind the gear. In normal use mine does just fine an in the event of a hard one the gear helps absorb the shock instead of breaking something.

RE: First flight on Katana GS 40 ARF
Sorry to just break in on this, but does any one know the exact colors for the white ultracote scheme on the Kat 40? I'm sure the white is just white, but what about the blue for the bottom of the wings and trim schemes? Need to do some touch ups and just need info on this. I will probably just try to color match at my LHS. If someone has this knowledge it would be appreciated.
Thanks

RE: First flight on Katana GS 40 ARF
I did not want to start a new thread – so I figured I would post some comments to this thread. I completed the maiden flight on my Katana GS 40 ARF this weekend. Bottom line, I really like the plane. This design is a nice improvement over my Goldberg Extreme 330 (and I like the Goldberg) in terms of flying characteristics.
I’m running a YS63-S, CG is set at 135mm as suggested by many folks on this board. As expected, at this CG the plane flys pretty much neutral (roll inverted and no elevator is needed). As others have said, I can confirm that there is minimal coupling at lower rudder deflection so knife edge flight is pretty much a rudder only affair.
I did some initial flights on Saturday – but I could not do much. It took a while to get the YS running well (plus it was pretty windy). This was my first YS and I’m not that good at tuning engines. In retrospect, I probably had the thing set way too lean on the first few flights (the factory setting were pretty lean – unlike Saito’s factory settings). Probably shortened its life a bit – but you live and learn. To my surprise, the thing never backfired once. After some adjustments to the low needle and the regulator the engine finally started to run smoothly on Sunday.
Only had a few flights with the engine running well. Upright harriers are a thing of beauty, you can just drive around the field at 5mph steering with the rudder (my Extreme 330 does not really lock into a harrier very well). Knife edge loops are no problem, some coupling but it’s still manageable (my Extreme 330 does not do knife edge loops as easily – more coupling). Hovering is no problem. I’m better at hovering my Extreme 330 – but I’m sure it’s just a matter of getting used to the new plane and engine. Walls are pretty amazing, very stable.
All up weight is 4.5lbs. The only issue I can see is longevity. This is a very light little plane and the YS produces a good amount of vibration. In my case, since I did not have the engine running well, I subjected the airframe to some extra vibration - oops. I’m kinda surprised that the airframe can take it. After the first few flights on Saturday, the glue joint between the wing and the fuse was clearly weakened. I took it home and put some more epoxy in there – seemed to hold up well on Sunday. I’ll just have to keep an eye on things.

RE: First flight on Katana GS 40 ARF
Hey guys. I have one of these GS40's and over last weekend a friend of mine was hover below me and cut my rudder off. Well. The plane flew away fine but, I am now missing the rudder. It seems that he not only cut is off if shredded it too.. Can someone please take a picture of the rudder and post it here for me. I can not get any support from Accel and I would like to fly this plane this weekend.
Let me know if you can help.

try to get in tuch with OMP at Ohiomodelproducts.com
they carry the TMPro V2's and it seems like the rudder is identical.
they sell spare parts so you can buy it seperatly.

Yes. A good .46 is probably the most common engine to use. TT Pro .46 is awesome and will hover the plane no problem. Get the kat 46 V2 on sale at OMP while they last!

Ive only had 4 I believe. I badly want another 40 an 70 but dont really have rooms as I only have about 5 other 40 sized profiles right now.
Katana 40 = my favorite 40 sized profile of all time.

RE: First flight on Katana GS 40 ARF
I had one for years, and I loved it. It taught me to toque roll and tail touch. Tough airplane, stick with the stock gear, what was said here about it absorbing shock on bad/catastophic landings is true. I finally knocked the nose off it this year and when I went to try to find another I couldn't, where are you planning on ordering from?
