The magic is awesome. It is my third plane and it will do anything.

Of the three you mentioned, I am flying only one of them. So, here's my 2 cents.

The Magic is indeed a lot of fun. I get a blast out of flying mine.

The Magic is a good aircraft to learn on and it is tough.

It's probably the best buy at just a touch less than $100. And will fly great on standard servos and a regular 46.

It's fun to fly when it is windy.

It does a good blender.

It does a good inverted and upright flat spin. (haven't been able to get a climbing flat spin yet.)

Don't ask it to Knife Edge, it won't.

Haven't been able to get a waterfall out of it yet, but this could be just me.

Yes, it will hover.

You will have to do something to beef up the stock landing gear. Either with dental floss and epoxy or by replacing it.

The Top Cap is suppose to be good too. I'll find out personnally as I have one headed to the bench after the next project.

Whatever you choose. Good Luck!!

Ok well you said the magic word... "Blender" the blender is one of my favorite moves.. I think I will go ahead and get a TopCap kit and Magic and just fly the magic while building the TopCap.

Would a stronger 30 sized do better than a plain bearing 40? I am all about light agile planes..

NavyFlyer,

There are two Magics at the club flying with an OS46FX (12.25 x 3.75 APC prop), including mine. There is another Magic in the Club flying with a Tower 40 (10x6 Master Airscrew???). Both setups fly well. Needless to say the radio setups are different between the two types of airplanes.

I'd suggest doing a search on the Magic as far as the OS32SX goes. There are several people who have put them on their airplanes. The results I read have been good, but I did not go through all the posts.

BTW, the performance of the Magic I listed in the post is for the setup with the OS46FX. Other people will have to speak regarding the ability of the Magic with a lighter motor. But it should perform well if everything else is kept light.

I run a os 46la bushing engine on mine. It has unlimited vertical. It will blender, hover, tr, pretty much everything but knife edge which was already stated.

I have a Wankel on mine, (talk about light) with no muffler, I like to fly it just to listen to that little thing run I'm not that fond of the airplane though, I was really surprised to see all the positive comments about it, Maybe I need to stick with it for a while and see if it grows on me.

I'm running an Supertigre 45 with mouse can pipe on mine. Using an topflite 11x4 wood prop. The st 45 turns this around 14600 rpm's. It weighs around 4.25 lbs. I have Hitec 605 on ail, jr 8321 on elev, jr 531 on rudder, and an mini on throttle. Using an 4 cell battery.

It flys great, this is the second one I have had. Have an lot of fun with it. With flap to elev mixing it will do an really small loop. Take off in about 2 ft.

I have the TC ARF with a saito 72. It came out pretty heavy, around 5 pounds, but it does just fine. The kit tends to come out a lot lighter. A guy i fly with has one that is just under 4 pounds with a MVVS 49 (?) I have gotten flat spins out of mine, but Hovering seems to be its best trick so far.

I also have the Magic with a 46. Only have a few nose heavy flights on it (my stick-on lead fell off) but it is a blast! the landing gear sucks though. the plastic clips all cracked and the gear fell off in flight. i have aluminum gear on it now. i am told Tertherite is considering coming out with glas filled nylon gear for it (good stuff).

good idea to get both planes, you will love them both!

I have had all the planes listed, only thing positive about the magic is the price, the top cap(kit) is probably the best all around FF plane, and the aeron is just unbelievable wild just not as stable in flight as the other 2

Magic: fun, light, cheap, and ugly!! :-) This one is runnig an OS 40 LA with apc 12x4. it's a friends..

Top cap: fun, reasonably priced, not so ugly, my personal favorite! It is a little heavier and would need a 46 to bring it to life.. The one pictured is running TT 46 Pro with APC 12x4

unfamilier with your third choice!

I flew a magic most of last season with OS 32 at barely over 3 lb. It flew fair but I wasn't that impressed after all the raves I had heard about it. I have watched a couple Topcaps and they looked very good. For $50 more than the Magic you can get the Extreme Flight profile Edge ARF. Way, way,way better than magic!!! Will fly excellent with your 46FXs.

Lets put it this way, I gave my Magic away after flying the EF Edge!

Paul Swany's Burrito is excellent fast building kit that flies extremely well for only $60 is another option.

Later,,,Matt

magic is a good plane for 99$.

pros- 1. unbelivble flat spins
2. light under 4 pounds with a .46
3. if you balence it right it will hover all day with ease
4. easy to see
5. just one of those easy flying fun flys
cons. 1. cheap covering
2. very little room in the fuse
3 hardware that comes with it sucks
4 cheap landing gear

I definitely suggest the magic. It is versatile and can fit into most overhead storage bins. I have perfected my knife edge quicker with the magic than any other plane. Right now im woking on my Topcap like Shortman. Shortman is God.

mine magic is a blast to fly, im just starting in 3d but i can harrier it all day long, the vertical abilitys with a os 46fx are endless, it has an awsome flat spin, and will take off in less than 10 feet with no mixing, im also at very high altitude and the performance is still endless

Here is mine.
somebody ask about the tetherite landing gear. 1st picture has them on

second picture is me getting low with it.

I really like the magic. it will fly as a tame as a trainer or pretty wild. loop and rolls are good will hover with ease. inverted stuff if good to. It a good airplane for $100 bucks and only take 3hrs are so to put together.

The topcap is a good airplane. will do anything you throw at if as long as your fingers are good. the ARf comes out at 5lbs. So its a little heavy. A kit version would be great at 4.5lbs are lighter.

I flew the Extreme flight edge this week. the guys I flew had a irvine .53 and tower muffler on it. but it flew real good. Probably one of the lightest profile ARFs on the market. He said his weighed around 4.5lbs. I really like the way it worked in inverted harriers. also will do anything.

If you want a quick building kit. PaulSwanys burrito is definately a winner. I framed up one is less than 10hrs or work. Flys real nice.

Has anyone done the wing upgrade to bolts instead of the rubber bands? If so can you send detaile pics to [email protected] ? I have converted my Magic to run on water using floats and it is a blast. It is fun to see a plane with floats hover, but those dang rubber bands. I have a saito 65 with a 14x4W APC.
