Default Sledge 540 Tips and 9C Programming Needed?

Just bought a used Sledge 540, A guy at our club builds many planes flys a few times and sells them. Quite a few have some Knifes he has build.

It has a Super Tiger 51 Engine on it, Futaba miniservos in wing,
11.4 apc prop,

He did not have Plans avail at this time.

Sooooooo

Sould some one or ones please give me an idea of proper CG?

How about Futaba 9 C programming settings?

And anyone have Super Tiger 51 tuning tips?

One thing I noticed is that the engine side with macs pipe facing under on passenger side is heaver on that side the pipe and engine is on, Tank is in wing on the same side as engine any suggestions on how to better balence the plane?

Any other tips appreciated? As I have no Plans ect.

Thanks Very Much, Dennis Spyridakos

Dennis, the best CG is right behind the secondary spar as it comes into the fuselage. Look inside those top hatches and you can see the secondary spar. For low rates get the ailerons and elevators about 1.5" each way and the rudder 3". For high rates however much you can get. I like to mix flaperons with my elevator, meaning that both ailerons go down (start with one inch travel) when the elevators go up and vice versa. Take your time and start slow to get the feel, it flies and performs a little different than others. Once your comfortable cut loose, also could you post a picture? Jeff Williams

Default Thanks for the reply!

Mr. Williams, Thanks for the reply!

I dont have digital picture capability yet :-(

Its all white as he builds all his plan to sell speculation models white so its easier to trim as we wish.

Ive been thinking of emailing you or Mr.Geffon to see if yall wanted to sell one and I show up at the field today and this guy is selling one in my favoriet color :-) The RC Gods were smiling on me today.

A friend just got a Knife the same guy build that the new flyer was tickled pink with and was 3ding like crazy.

Other guy s at the field were almost crying as they did not get a chance to fly it yet:-( The one I bought that is. )

Ill give them a chance when I can :-)

Any other's that want to give there Tips in relation to my post Please Do.

Thanks, Dennis

Dennis, I'll move over to this forum for the Sledge discussion. I have 2 of the ST.51s, and I used one on a TopCap with good results. I ran mine with a Macs header and mousse can pipe. With this set up I found the OS 8 glow plug to work the best, and some others that I tried would barely run at all. 5-10% nitro on the fuel is good enough. A 11x4 Zinger prop is just about right. Set your top end needle close to right, and then adjust the low needle so when you quickly open the throttle after a 15-20 second idle there is no hesitation. Now re-adjust the high needle 2-4 clicks rich of peak. I've always had good luck with the Super Tiger engines. Tom

Default Tom, which has more power - Macs or Mousse?

Do you get more power with the mousse can muffler or the macs?

I've got the ST 45 and a Macs on a knife. I'm wanting a little more power and wondering if I'd get it with the mousse can.

If that's a black Mac's one piece muffler you're talking about, then you will get lots more out of a mousse can muffler setup. Just be carefull to not run the engine lean... Pipes tend to be hard on an engine....
