OMP Katana V2-46
WOW! I have been wanting to step up and try one of the OMP profiles for a LONG time, because their outstanding reputation... I am DEFINITELY getting the V2-46
Have any of you guys flown this baby yet? I have not been in this forum for awhile so I am not sure how new it is but plug-in wings? Decent control horns? I am stoked---
I did notice they recommend a 40-60 2cy. @ 4.5lbs, is that heavy for a 46 sized profile? I will probably use a Webra-50 if the OMP folks think I can get good performance from it-- Wish I still had my YS-63FZ

RE: OMP Katana V2-46
I love my Katana!! You will love yours too!
My .46 seemed a bit old, so I slapped an OS .61 on it... Zoooooooooooom
Added a bit of weight, but it still just floats!

RE: OMP Katana V2-46
There have been lots of guys that put .61's on these planes just because they have them laying around. It won't kill the Katana, thats for sure. It can be used, but just not suggested due to the weight that the plane just does not need. Although there are a lot of people like Exter Aces just said that use the .61 and it still seems to float like it has a .46 on it.

STLPilot- Thanks! I actually have a TT Pro-46 and Tower muffler that'll work also... That way I don't have to strip another plane to get the Webra...
This profile just looks flat-out impressive!
I will definitely use a 46-50 then to keep her light---

RE: OMP Katana V2-46
I have a Super Tigre 45 2 strokes engine.
Will it be powerful enough?
Because i really don't wanna buy a new engine only for this profile... economical reasons
Thanks a lot, Shachar.
P.S. (I ment the v2 folding winged katana..)

RE: OMP Katana V2-46
There are a million threads on engines for 40 size profiles and there are tons of great choices. Anything from ballistic power to the standard .46 BB two-stroke. The Kat 46 V2 is a few oz heavier than the predecessor due to the addtion of the two piece wing construction but given the power we have in today's engines that is not a problem at all. Plus I think the planes fly somewhat better with a little more weight. the wing loading is still rediculously low to begin with.

RE: OMP Katana V2-46
Got a confirmation from the shipper the container is underway. Now comparing the 47" Edge and Kat 46 this has come up before. The Edge is by far the best one for learning 3D flying. It was specifically designed for this purpose yet still a very advanced performer as well. The Kat, like the Yak, is looser in the air and thus more nimble for aerobatics and quick moves. So it boils down to if you are comfortable flying 3d then go with the Kat, if you want more of a 3D trainer then go with the Edge.

Hmmm, I was wondering about that. Since I've been more about speed than aerobatics, perhaps the edge would fit me better.
But I like the color scheme on the kantana...hehe....

RE: OMP Katana V2-46
Yes, they have virtually the same dimensions as the original kat 40 version only two piece wing, etc. as described previously. Covering is not monokote or ultrakote but I will tell you we explored many options for covering and this stuff rivals ultrakote. It is NOT the cheap chinakote most people have had bad experiences with. Both the kat 40 and 70 V2s are inbound from the west coast on a train right now. We've posted many updates on the OMP forum as to the status. Shippers estimate a delivery date to us on or about the 28th. Shipping to customers should be shortly after that. As I've stated before though one of the big unknowns is how long customs will take with the container.
