Default Kat question....

I'm not sure how to go with my set up. I have a GS40 katana with an OS 46 AX with the CG set up at 130 mm. It flies awesome but thinking I could save some weight and add a little power I bought a Macs muffler for it. The Macs is about 2 oz. lighter and I found now that my CG is more like about 160 mm. The rx battery was at about 1/2 aft of the trailing edge of the wing to get the CG to 130 now I have it up by the fuel tank and it's still not enough. I'm thinking I could move the engine forward a little but I don't think it will help that much. I don't want to add a bunch of weight to balance it out. Any suggestions? Here's the muffler I put on it. [link]http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXZ652&P=ML[/link

Unbolt the engine and use some rubber bands to hold it in place. Move it forward and see how much it helps.

the tuned pipe may get you power... but it puts most of the weight behind the CG...
have you tried flying with the stock muffler?

remove the baffle helps, or run a Tower Hobbies muffler for a bit more power

Thanks guys. I was going to move the engine forward tonight and see how that works.
I have used the stock muffler. That was my original set up. Worked great. When you're talking about removing the baffle, you're talking about removing it from the stock muffler, right? Does that make it louder?

yes...it is louder... but it can increase power a bit... but make sure the noise is OK at your field.....

I ended up putting an OS .61 on my Kat.... Wow... Rockets out and still flies light... had to open up the engine mount a bit... but it was worth it for me...

My .46 was good, but I think it was a bit old and weak... the .61 is great...

A 61 eh? Sounds awesome....... My Kat now seems like it has tons of power, I can't imagine a 61 on it.
I have a OMP Edge kit to build yet and am probably going to put a Saito 72 on it........ [8D] Can't wait to build that one. I'll have to say these profile type planes are way better than I was expecting. Lots of fun......[X(]

4 stroke is the ONLY way to go on these things. The hot .46's provide enough power (I had one on my Kat) but they just arnt a 4 stroke. If your going to buy one new let me suggest the new saito .82. Thats perfect IMO.

agreed... if going with the saito...get the .82

Yep, my .61 is a bit heavy, but the plane still floats just fine....

An 82 on the Edge? Wow! Now that's a rocket ship.[X(] I've got an 82 on my UCDo. I can't imagine having that much power on the Edge. Hmmmm.....
The 72 is one I have from a Twist I use to have so it's not like I'm buying one just for the Edge...
