Default Tail Wire vs Tail Wheel

I have noticed a lot of fun fly kits call for tail wires to be installed instead of tail wheels. Not having much experience with drag skids or tail wires, I was wondering, what other fun fliers out there are using on their models? And why you feel that your choice is better? Also, why do you think kits are designed to have wires or skids vs wheels?

Default Tail wires vs wheels

If your plane take off in 2 feet you don't need a wheel
If your plane take off in 20 feet you need a wheel
If you can live without wheel you are saving some weight too.
It's my vision about your point.
What plane is next to your name ?
Thanks
Phil

Default re

its all in what you want but the average funfly plane has enough control surface it will turn with no problem and it is one less thing to mess with

Default Tail Wire vs Tail Wheel

I have a wheel on most of my fun-fly stuff but they are not steerable. Doesnt need to be. Take a look at the size of the rudders on most fun fly planes. That, and some prop blast will guide you around on the ground.

I did fly a Morris .60 su-do with just a skid. (no wheel) and it was fine. It would even taxi around fairly well.

Default tail skid

I agree, on my fun flys all I use are fixed tail skids.

The only reason for steerable wheel would be if you fly off of hard surface.

Default Tailwire vs. Tailwheel

I just flew my Magic 3D with the tailwire. No problem until I tried taxing down wind on a hard surface. wind was 8-10 mph and I finally had to walk out and get it. Everbody was laughing their socks off. No other problems and I will retain the skid wire.
