RE: Carl Goldberg Extreme 330 and Saito 100
It flies well with a saito 72 - a saito 82 would be stronger yet. I think a saito 100 could be better used on a different larger airframe. Mine has a 72 with a 13x6 apc prop.

Can someone help me out please. I'm in the middle of the Extreme 330 build, and the instructions only mention the control throws to be set initially to +/- 3/8" for all surfaces. Can someone give tell me what you set your throws up for low rates and 3D rates and Expo that has worked well for you.
Thanks,
JoeRC

I have the 540, with a Saito 82 on it. Balanced perfect... I set mine up at 3/8 and all you can get, like the boox said. 1st flight, it was a HAND FULL. I thought it was going to be rekitted, then I figured out I was on high rates, and it was out of trim.. Got it trimmed, and it flies great, even on high rates. It is quick..
You will have to find your confort zone with it, but I would make sure it is on low rates til you get it trimmed..

RE: Carl Goldberg Extreme 330 and Saito 100
I've had two of these, and am building a third. It will get a 61 two stroke, which i have found is a good match. Those throws sound right. I tend to run digital servos and carbon pushrods so mine are even more reponsive. It is quick, in part because of the short tail moment. But its really smooth. On 3D mode I run 84% expo and about 50% on normal. That's really not needed, though, but I like to do long, very slow rolls and other precision moves and the expo saves me from setting up a precision flight mode, which I usually do anyway. Yes, even a funfly like the 330 can do precise work if you set it up right. meaning take care to mix out coupling so you get pure response to your inputs. Another trick I've found on ships like this is to use a bit of flaperon. Not to make the loops tighter, but to be able to adjust the tracking through a loop. You can do it by slaving an aileron to the elevator, but using the flaperon feature saves mixes. This thing flies so well I always torque roll on low rates, and will trim while in a TR. Like if it is pulling toward the canopy (like my first one did) in hover, just throw in a click or two of elevator trim. Its so stable in hover, its not going anywhere.

I have a Goldberg Extreme 330 and they tend to come out tail heavy with a .46. I used a Saito .91 in mine until I needed the engine for another project. I also went to Tetherite KrazyLegs profile gear. Excellent. I got climbing flat spins out of mine so I couldn't complain. Great blenders. I seem to recall I used a 15-4W APC prop.
Sure there's vibration, but 3D planes don't last forever. I would say a Saito 100 or a .61-.75 2-stroke would be great. Maybe a Tower .75.

RE: Carl Goldberg Extreme 330 and Saito 100
I have another question for those who have built the CG Extreme 330. I don't find much room at all inside the hatch for my Futaba R127-DF receiver, especially when I wrap in foam, where have others place their receivers?
Thanks,
JoeRC

I cut out some of the lite ply servo mount and put the receiver (same one as you) behing the servo mount. I didn't like those mounts anyway, and just put mine on rails with the arm coming through the hatch.

AeroDave, thanks again for the advice on the Receiver.
I have another question for you. How the heck did you get your servo extenstion wires through the provided plastic tube? The sides of my rectangular tube are pushed in and I can not get the female end of the extensions through.
Thanks,
JoeRC

ha ha... that one.
I never used the tube. I just put a little wire retainer (looks like a plastic ring) about every 6 inches to keep the extensions out of the flying surfaces. They just got oily hanging out in teh breeze, just like the servos. Hundreds of flights, no problems. I scratch build LOTS of 3D profiles and use this method on all of them. It makes changing out a servo easy.

Set your throws on low, like the instructions recommend.......then fly it! Use those low end settings as a base line for your high rates. Dial in a little more each time until you get comfortable with the bird!
Don't forget to dial in expo on the high rate.start with 50% MINIMUM...............

RE: Carl Goldberg Extreme 330 and Saito 100
I have flown with both engines - mine has the saito 72 with apc 13x6 prop. Another flier has the os 50 on his which I have also flown - both fly well but I like mine better.
