I can't find Grish trident props anymore. The hobby shop tries ordering thru Sig (I think) and says they are told have been backorder for ages. Also this distributer is unable to contact them by phone or email. Are there any comparable props available? My hobby shop doesn't know any other to look for. Thanks, glen.

10-4 Master Airscrew. They are a lot stronger than the APC'S and that seems to be the size for the PBF

I agree with bbjoe. Until the Grish props are available again (if ever), the Master Airscrew is the next best choice.........even though the MA isn't really in the same league as the Grish when it comes to durability.

Performance wise, the Master Air screw props stink. They are great for beginners, or for an aircraft that the prop is liable to be subject to ground hits. The MAS is not stronger than the APC by any means. The MAS has more flex over the APC due to nylon vs. composite material construction. The APC is significantly mor rigid, which makes it more brittle over the MAS. The MAS flattens out about 2 pitches with RPM. The MAS spins up faster & has better breaking features over the APC because it is lighter and flexs more. It is hard to beat the wood prop though for response rate and braking features. I run the modified Zinger 10x4 on my PBXL with a Webra 32 with a MCM. If you have added landing gear to your PBF, you're much better off with a wood prop over the MAS or APC. You can get so much better response out of the wood props, which is essential in recovery in those low low manuvers (when you 'dumb-thumb' a move )

Dave - have you tried the modified version of the Zinger according to 3Dreaming's recommendations for your Stickit? I think that you'll like it much better over the Top Flite Pwr Point.

I agree that the APC and wood props fly better than a MA prop.....but the APC and wood props are way too fragile if you like to play rough with a PBF.

Kevin, please tell me more about the Zinger prop mods. Where would I find the info about this?

Dave - Check out the prop thread here on RCU. Here is a link for your convinience. You'll find with these modifications suggested by 3Dreaming, you'll get a significant amount of pull vs the std Zinger, though the response more like the Top Flite power point. Check it out.

Kevin, thanks for the "Prop" thread link! Lots of good information in that thread! I also agree that a wood prop is better on any fun fly plane simply because of the quicker throttle response. In a fun fly plane, I would rather fly a poor wood prop (Top Flite) than a heavy but efficient prop (APC).

But what REALLY caught my eye in that thread was Andrew's prop duplicator that he built to make wooden clones of APC props! WOW! APC efficiency combined with fast throttle response! Have you had a chance to test fly those samples any more? I'm also thinking that a wooden clone of an APC 15x4w would be nearly ideal for a ST 90 in a fun fly plane.

Dave - I am suppose to send a couple of the APC 15x4W props to Andrew for him to cut me a couple of wood versions to test on my Ecstasy with the ST90, though haven't yet because of an ice storm that we have here in Greenville, SC. Pretty nasty to say the least. I have been experimenting with a modified version of the Zinger 16x5. I cut it down to 15" and modified the tips (according to 3Dreaming's experiments) and have run that, though it runs at about 1K RPM less than the APC 15x4W. I am going to do some more carving on it to see if I can get the RPM back up because the response rate was GREAT! I will let you know how I make out.

By the way, my PBXL short kit has been a great success! I've shipped PBXLs all over so far. I am finishing building a modified version right now with conventional landing gear that I hope to finish covering this weekend and test fly next week end. I may even fabricate a set of CF LG for it to keep the weight down. this thing is a BLAST!!!
