Somethin' Extra 1" Rudder Addition?
I am just at the stage of building the rudder on my Somethin' Extra and have decided to add 1" to it.
Anything to watch out for when doing this?
It looks quite straightforward. I am just going to add a 1/4" x 1" piece of balsa to the front of the rudder all the way along it's length.

I've heard that you should open up the elevator area to allow more rudder throw as well.... There's a guy on this board that does nothing but build somethin' extra's.....

SE rudder adddition
I considered the leverage of the air pressure against the rudder at full deflection and elected to add the 1" at the rear of the rudder. This removes the chance of the strain seperating a glue joint at the front edge. Just my .02

What about putting a counter balance on the top of the rudder? Say another 1/4" x 1" strip along the top of the rudder extending over the top of the fin?
Any benefit of doing this?
