Modeltech Magic Engine Choice?
Im picking up a Magic and trying to decide on a 2 stroke engine such as a 46FX or maybe going 4 stroke with a 52 Surpass or some other 4 stroke? Which motor do you think would work best for hovers etc?? If you were choosing an engine for your Magic which would you install???
Thanks!!!!
Thanks!!!!

Well...
The info. above is good....
My dad flies his with a Magnum 52 4 cy. and it is plenty for hovering.
If it were me I would put an Irvine 53 on one...
Good luck,
james

Engine?
RCSTING - I would most defiantly go with the .46 FX with an APC 11.5X4 it is a great combo for 3-Ding. I have 45 hrs on my magic and it is the best $100 bucks I have ever spent! Here is a pic of me and my magic doing a vertical landing. Ricky

HOW ABOUT A LIGHT MOTOR
A few weeks ago when this subject came up, a lot of the Magic flyers were talking about the benifits of a light motor. They were calling for the light weight-high power of the OS32 and the TT36 or even a good 40 plain bearing motor. I have a TTGP42 that will go on mine, when I get around to assembling it. Another good reason for using the 42 (in my case) is that it is just laying there with no home. I also have a FP 40 and a Saito 56, all of them just laying around. So I could change my mind.

Modeltech Magic Engine Choice?
On my magic I have a OS .46 FX with an APC 12.25x3.75 prop.
This prop gives you a lot of air deflection for the surfaces and also plenty of low end torque to pull out. I can hover my magic around half throttle. All of the guys at my field that do the hovering in the same size range use the APC 12.25-3.75 prop. If you don't mind spending the extra money the webra .50 is a good choice. People at my field love this engine. It usually doesn't have to be tuned, and not to mention that it is very tough.

They are Magic!!!
Out of the 5 Magics in our club I actually started 2 of the guys (beginner's) to the hobby, with the Magic. The Magic is their first Airplane and it took me 1/2 the time to teach these guys to fly the Magic VS. a 40 size trainer. We just set the control throws below sug. This calms the Magic and makes it very docile. This thing really is Magic. Any 40 size Eng no matter what your choice is works great!!!! These two guys are now soloed and are starting to crank in more and more control surface throws. They Are Magic!!! PS We got the magics for them online. We paid $110 for both new in box, thats only $55 each They Love the Planes, but a little skeptic at first from what they were told by many club members.Makes a great Fisrt time Trainer for $99 Dollars!!!

Re: They are Magic!!!
My has MVVS 40 with tuned pipe.
APC 12.25x3.75 is spining at 13.000 static.
Plenty of power (hoovering at 1/2 throttle)
As far as plane is concerned, it's really MAGIC

What muffler?
What muffler and or header or MOUSE CAN MUFFLER are you guys running on your engines? It is important to mention the engine and muffler combo you are using. A Mouse can muffler or a TOWER HOBBIES muffler on O.S. or Thunder Tiger engines makes a world of differece on power and throttler response.

What motor 4 you
Hey RCSTING: I have built over 20 magics for guys in the sacto. area and the best overall combo seems to be the SX32 with the ultrathurst for lighting quick transition and great overall funfly use. We had 2 (MAGIC ONLY) funflys this year, 1 at the mather feild and 1 at woodland davis. They were tons of fun! Use a 10X4 APC prop and if you mount your elevator servo 5" from the rear on the outside the fuse your C.G. will be perfect for asskicking flight. Also make sure to couple your flaps with elevator. Yea you can use the FX46 or the 52 O.S. and thats cool but I prefer to keep the Magics as lite as poss. Check with the pros at RC COUNTRY HOBBIES and they will give you all the info on great set up and how to go to my next magic funfly. DAVE ------------------------------------------------------------ KEEP IT LOW AND SLOW!!!

Sea Level VS. Mile high!!!
An Sx 32 is OK at sea level or just above. Bring your Magic Up here at 5,000 to 6,000 Ft. above sea level and I'll guarantee you that your plane will just fall off if you try to hover it up here. Thats why we need to use the bigger Engines at these higher Altitudes.we need at least an OS 46FX To hover a Magic at 2/3 throttle at our high altitude a little better in the cooler air also the hotter it is the higher the density Altitude thus less power from the same engine!
Bought the two Magics off the INTERNET!!!! Add read must sell moving!

Modeltech Magic Engine Choice?
4 stroken Ron speaks the truth. In my club there are several guys that have the Magic and they all think that the Webra .32 or .35 heli is the ju-ju. They all have taken the wire gear off and gone with carbon fiber. I've seen them fly and the .32/.35 combo is pretty sweet. It's definately light enough. On a side note, they are all using tuned pipes or the mousse can set up. I'm not a Magic flyer. I went my own way with a Pizazz and a Saito .72. The Pizazz is a neat flying plane, if you tweek it right and have the cg dialed in to reality.

Modeltech Magic Engine Choice?
ONE GOOD SUGESTION THAT I HAVE IS TO CHANGE THE WIRE PULL-PULL SYSTEM ON THE MAGIC, AND GET A $6 CABLE PUL PUL SYSTEM FOR THE ELEVATOR AND RUDER, SOME MODIFICATIONS TO BE DONE TO THE HOLDING PLATE IN THE FUSELAGE, BUT WORTH A SERVO, BECAUSE OF THIS FRICTION I LOS MY ELEVATOR SERVO...... LUCKILY I FOUND OUT ON THE GROUND
REMEMBER MAGIC IS ADDICTIVE!!!!

High alitude solution
O.K. I have a great idea! I will design a (HIGH ALITUDE ADAPTER) for anyone flying a modeltech magic above 5000ft. We will start with a firewall adapter to convert it to a 4in. width and then we install a 3W 80 twin , Will that be enough? I believe the person that was originally inquiring was at sea level not on pikes peak. HA HA HA! Just kidding guys. You go RCSTING!!! ---------------------------------------------------- PLANEBENDER
