While I'm Waiting - Which Engine For My Mojo?
#26
T.W. I had a Irvine 53 on the same MOJO I have the 82 on now till I hit the ground so hard I knocked the muffler off the and messed the flange up where it mounts.(can you beleive I messed the motor up hardly hurt the plane)really liked the Irvine better that the Saito exect the noise.
XJet is right about the vidration of the 82 every time I give it full throttle it sounds like someone is beating on a snardrum.
Whatever motor you decide on you will love your MOJO. Get her going and fly the heck out of it.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Thanks for this georgec. Sorry to hear about your damaged engine and hope that the damage is fixable (although it sounds like it will be an expensive fix even if it can be fixed!). I'm not going to get my workshop back for around another five weeks, so I've still got plenty of time to figure out which engine I'll be using in my Mojo . . . . but I'm already looking forward to flying it

Thanks Paul and budshobby. Boy do I wish I could start building my Mojo right now! But it looks like being another month or so before I'll get my workshop back again. Oh well, more time to make sure I get the engine decision right then

As I said earlier: "my workshop is currently doubling-up as a store-room for some of my daughter's stuff, while she's waiting to move into a new home." It's chock-full of furniture right now . . . . and there's around another month or so to go (doesn't time drag when you're wanting it to pass quickly!

Things just got a whole lot worse! My daughter 'phoned just now to say that the house she was buying has been taken off the market! This means that her furniture now looks like becoming a permanent fixture in my workshop - seeing-as it took her four years to find the "home of her dreams!" Things "must" change . . . . I can't go that long without a workshop . . . . I need my workshop back . . . . help!!!
Oh well, maybe I'll have to set-up a temporary "Mojo Building Area" in my den

Hi George - I hear what you're saying there. One of my flying pals is "so" single that he builds and repairs his models in his sitting room whilst watching TV! He also throws weekly "building parties," where invited flying pals go around and set-to building models, and drinking beer, along with him - from the comfort of easy chairs. Over last winter they built a whole "crop" of replica Limbo Dancers - it's amazing what one can justify doing when there's no-one around to keep a lid on things! As for me . . . . I definitely need to find a temporary space to set-up my building board (if the wife will let me

I know exactly where you're coming from closetguy . . . . but we wouldn't have it any other way, would we? Oh well, at least I've got plenty of time to ponder the choice of engines for my Mojo, seeing as I probably won't get to build it for quite a while now! Then again, maybe one of my single pals would let me build it in his living room - for a couple of crates of beer

Here's another option: I just bought a Saito 100. Overkill for my Mojo - maybe?

Thats a bit of a overkill although some of the Bros have been known to put 90/100 on 40 size profiles.

I suppose that the 100 really is "just a little" over the top for the Mojo
. I'm actually thinking I'll use it in my Funtana 40S, which currently has an ASP .61 4-stroker which doesn't provide enough power for what I want to do - and I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't be enough for the Mojo either. But I'm now torn between using my Saito .72 and Irvine .53 for the Mojo. I think that the TT .46 may have to work too hard in my Mojo . . . . . although I'm open to other opinions on these thoughts. One thing I have at the moment is plenty of time to make the final decision!

You think the Irvine .53 would be better than the Saito .72? Actually I wouldn't be surprised if you're right 'cause the Irvine does have a lot of power (and it does make a bit of a row too!)

I liked my Irvine better than the 4 stroke. It have a lot better throttle responce. I really think my MOJO flew better with a 2 stroke than A 4 stroke. Just my .2 cents worth other people will say differnt.
I know this kinda goes against what I said earlier. Cause I like the quitness of a 4 stroke. But I lke the quick throttle responce of a 2 s.

if i were you i would really think of putting a saito 91 on it
i've got one and you wouldn't believe the performance. it flies light and it will come way within the recommended weight range.

I wouldn't put a Saito 100 on a Mojo 40 -- the damned thing would be shaken apart within minutes. Even my Mojo60 gets severely battered by the vibes from my 100.
Remember that one of the key factors with any 3D ship is weight. I'd rather have a light Mojo with good power than a heavy one with outrageous power. Remember that lots of 3D maneuvers are done at far less than full throttle -- so then all you've got is a heavier (than normal) bird that won't fly as well as a light one.
And don't worry about the TT46Pro working too hard. I've had one in my Katana P (which, thanks to many repairs over the past 3 years) has gone from 4.25lbs to almost 5lbs. The TT46Pro still hauls that baby around really nice and since I switched to using oil from Cooper Fuels, I'm getting just over 13,000 RPMs on an APC 12x4 prop using just 5% nitro and a tower muffler -- that's *more* than enough power for great 3D and a lot of fun. I was getting just 12,500 when using Coolpower castor/synth blend with 5% nitro and even that was *heaps*.

Tiktock: Unfortunately I don't have a spare Saito .91 - and I'm "fighting the urge" to buy yet another engine. Having said this I only recently bought both a .72 and a 100 Saito. The 100 will go in my Funtana 40S for sure, and I just want to establish which of my "spare" engines will give me the best performance in the Mojo. XJet: I hear what you're saying on vibration issues - I must admit to having wondered about this myself
No doubt that by the time I get my workshop back I'll have come to the right decision - with all your help
Right now it seems to me that the TT .46 will be fine (I'm right in thinking that it will go vertical "easily" from a stationary prop-hang situation?), and if I find that I'd like more power then the Irvine would be an easy up-grade. I think that's the way I'll probably go with my Mojo. In which case the Mojo will be the only one of my models powered by a 2-stroke engine!
I'm waiting on delivery of a H9 Twist right now so the Saito .72 will go into that one - and it'll probably get into the air long before I get the Mojo built! Such is (my) life, I always seem to have to wait far too long for the "really good" things

I have a similar model to the Mojo [ Morris Hobbies Sledge ].
I have a Weston 50 T1 with the Genesis throttle pipe in it. Out turns everything else of similar size on an APC 13x4 wide wirh a reliable throttle.
If it blew up today I would buy another. It is pricey!

That's yet another engine that I don't have j.duncker. Glad to hear it's working well for you, but I really want to use an engine I've already got hanging-around gathering dust. At the moment the contenders are: Magnum .36 with mini throttle pipe; Super Tigre .40; Thunder Tiger .46 Pro; MDS .48; OS .52 Surpass; Irvine .53; ASP .61 4-stroke; Saito .72; Saito 100 (although I really don't plan on using the larger Saito as that's already spoken for)

I just bought a Saito .82 for the model I had lined-up for my Saito .72 . . . . guess this leaves the .72 free for my Mojo! I've heard rhumours that I may get my workshop back in a month or two. Roll-on!
