Default prop recommendation ?

I am flying an OMP .40 size edge profile. Current power is an OS .46 AX. I'm currently running a zinger pro 13X5 turning about 9300 rpm on 10% fuel and stock muffler. Just wondering what some others are using on .46 size motors with profiles for good hovering performance.
I love the bird. Tried it with a Magnum .52 4 stroke. Too aneimic. I tried a zinger pro 14X4 but it bogged the motor down too much and would not perform even with the magnum. The 13X5 holds a nice hover but doesn't rocket out of it. Will going to a 13X4 give enough added rpm to get the strong exit or will I loose verticle?

Bob,

The 13" diameter is way too much for the .46AX. I have the same engine on my OMP Edge turning an APC 11.5X4 with excellent results. The smaller diameter will allow the motor to spool up quicker and deliver quick power when you need it. The 13" diameter prop is like having a flywheel on the front......definitely NOT what you want on a 3D profile plane. You can also try the APC 12.25 X 3 .75 and this will work well also. For BEST hover and power out of a hover run the 11.5 x 4 with 15% fuel. A Tower Hobbies muffler or a MACS pipe will give you even more RPM.

Good luck and enjoy the Edge!

Jeff

I had my 46AX on a TT Fun Tiger (kinda like an edge) and used an APC 12X4W. When it broke, I used a zinger 13X4 (which is the same size as an APC 13X4W but alot lighter) Both of theese props worked really well.

I forgot to mention I was running Byron 20/20. I never put a tach on it, to me, flying is a hobby / habbit not a science.

Jeffro

Thanks man. The APC 11.5 X 4 was definately the ticket for the .46 AX.

using a 12.25 x 3.75 on an MVVS 49 for a Gee Whiz bee. Definitely better than a 12 x 4 for hovering.
