some time last season in some thread...... the question was asked about the dimensions of the funflys used by the pilots at NCFFA
what are the rules or if rules doen't apply what is the standard as far as wing span and distance between hinge lines?
on a boom plane if the rear hinge line was moved closer to the front hinge what happens? is there a point where it too close?
just wondering

A short tail moment (hinge lines closer) makes a plane more sensitive to pitch control. It gets "jumpy" or "twichy" as it gets shorter. That's why pattern planes have long sleek tail moments. The length smoothes the pitch response for the type of manuvers pattern requires. Hovering is often enhanced by a longer tail, due to the pendulum effect. For hard snap, whip, and bang it out aerobatics, a shorter moment is in order.
Hope that helps.

A stick and boom plane does run a shorter tail moment than a funfly ship...the dimensions should be found in the rules on the NCFFA web site which is www.ncffafunfly.org. Years ago we tried very short tail moments and the tail was actually blanked out by the thickness of the wing...it looped like crazy at full power but when slowed down would pitch up and down violently until dissaster struck. The dimensions of the plane i fly now is 42 inches at the leading edge and 45 at the trailing edge...the main wing is 41 1/2 inches with tapered tips and the hing line to hinge line i cant remember off hand i would have to check it for you..i am drawing a blank right now...lol.
What exactlly are you asking for...designing your own plane or looking for one to build for the up and coming contest season, and are you more interested in the funfly ships or unlimited ones?
