I want a profile!
I am sick of my funtana x50! It just doesn't fly like i wanted it. Simply to heavy for the wing area.
Anyway, from the looks of it, a profile is the way to go for a great 3d plane. I am looking for an ARF profile with a wing area around 1000.
I was looking at the accel katana gs 70 and the OMP katana 70 V2. I just want your opinions on these planes. I have herd mixed reviews on the accel and nothing but good reviews of the v2. But i am on a budget and the cheaper the better and the Accel costing 50 dollars less is a better price. But if the accel is really crap than i will shell out the extra 50 for the V2.
Any other profile ARF's in this size

RE: I want a profile!
Which engine are you planning on using?
I have a V1 Katana and love it.... about to retire it and get a V2... (.46 size).... another one to look at is the Fusion... again I have the smaller size (with a Saito .82) and I built mine from the kit (EASY build....)
it took some getting used to.... as it is a different breed.... but I am really happy with mine......
just thoughts...

RE: I want a profile!
Cambo,
i am flying a Modeltech Sukhoi, and is it great. i like better than anything i am flying or have flown recently.
OTOH, i also just ordered a TMPRO extra 260. i am waiting for it to get here any day. The video on that plane is awesome.
Both are going for $119.00. Also check your local hobby shop for one of these. The quality of the sukhoi is great, i have no complaints. This is the second modeltch profile i have had. The first was the Hotknife. i flew it till it came apart, About two years.

RE: I want a profile!
I enjoyed the heck out of my Accell kit I picked up both of mine on eBay when they were selling them for about 50-60 bucks. I think they failed an area on QC. I picked up this an that pitts. I love the way mine flew (past tense). The bird was very strong at 3d with t-rolls and knife edge so slow being my favorites with this bird. I never did any blender or waterfalls since something did not pass the QC check list I figure since I got them both so cheap. I lost mine in sun one day doing rollers/harries type. I will get another one of these kits again. I still have the pitts. keep us posted on what move you make. I ran an OS-91 on a 15 x 4 on my Katana, I think the weight was 5 lbs 4-7 oz not sure about those oz anymore. The 91 was plenty for that bird on a 8 oz tank I could easily do 15 minutes since I never needed full throttle only to show off and show how quick I could send it to the moon. One or two times of that and u know its possible then it just time to enjoy keeping it low and doing your thing.....

RE: I want a profile!
Hi Everyone
The engine is an sk 91 2 stroke. It is ported for big props. Basically likes to turn under 10,000 with a more 4c like throttle responce. I run a 15-6 and get 9800 and 11 pounds of thrust. Man, if it blew my 6.75 plane out of hover this engine would pull a 5.5 pound plane out of hover like a ROCKET. Krayzc-RCU, what were the QC problems your katana had? I am really looking for a 70 size bird here. Also, does the accel wing attach
Is this where i would get it
http://www.accelhobby.com/2p_katanags70.html
BTW, i HAD a mojo 40. Flew like c$%p because i biult it like c$%p. I just don't have the patience for kits.

Cambo,
I have been looking at the SK 91. I have seen the 55 and the 80 is it? Both ran very well once tuned and broken in. The mufflers were bricks though. How do you like yours? Transition well? How's the midrange?

RE: I want a profile!
I really like mine. For 100 dollars it is the best bang for your buck IMO. As i said above, it is much like a 4 stroke in terms of the port job; torque at low power settings, likes larger props (i have tried, 15-6, 15-8, 16-4, and 16-6 all with fantastic results). Muffler is kind of heavy but the engine REALLY runs smooth with it. But, agian, it really shines in its 4c like ability. Once the engine is broken in and it is tuned correctly it had very CRISP throttle responce. The 15-6 prop and 16-4 are my favorite for 3d. I am sure that you could go as big as a 17-4 or 17-5 but spool up would be slower. Make sure you have good prop clearance for the plane of choice. The engine has to be loaded under 10,000 on the ground or trouble will arise in the air. If you go under 15 inches in props be sure to run pitches of 8 or more. All in all, it has been one of my favorite engines.

RE: I want a profile!
Stay away from the TMPro 260 and the Modeltech Shuki as they are 40 size planes and not even close to your wing area needs.
I'd go with the Kat if you wanted something right now or the Fusion. Since you can't build straight these two ARF's will suit your needs well I think.

RE: I want a profile!
You can buy the Katana off of eBay. It is pretty inexpensive. Just make sure it doesn't fall apart on you though. I don't recommend the TMPro E-260 because I am not a fan of Chinacote covering. Chinacote is terrible in fuel resistence. At least the Accel Katana is made with Monokote.

TMPRO 260 all the way or Katana V2 from TMPRO. They are both GREAT flying airplanes and probably the best profiles I have ever flown. Covering last me for a good while so far with no problems. Just iron down your plane before you fly it the first time and you should be fine.

Whoa there tiger! I know you are all pumped about those two planes Kevin, but he is looking for 1000 squares. The KAT 70 V2 would fall into that category, but the 260 from NovaBill ain't even close. Take a look at the original post.....he's looking for something for his SK 91.

RE: I want a profile!
Cool
Have been reading around about the kat 70 v2. Nothing but great reviews from everyone. I also like the way the wing is installed. I have always prefered two piece wings over a one piece.
