Would someone please explain how to perform a flat spin. Setting up for the manuver, control imputs, and throttle. How important is CG?
Many thanks!

To do an upright flat spin, put the plane in a climb with the throttle at idle. When the plane stalls, input full left rudder, full left aileron and full up elevator. Once the plane goes into a spin, neutralize the ailerons. Some planes spin flatter with opposite aileron and some throttle so you have to experiment with your particular plane. To spin the other direction, do the inputs to the right. An aft CG helps and you must also have enough throw in your rudder to enter a spin.
Important: Most planes recover by neutralizing the inputs, adding throttle and pushing the nose down to gain airspeed. Some planes need opposite rudder to stop the spin. If your plane does not recover within a few rotations, apply opposite rudder. You would be smart to let someone experienced spin your plane the first time so you can know what to expect in recovery.

Also the CG is important. I a nose heavy plane will be tough to flatten out. But even if its not tail heavy you'll atleast get something resembling a flat spin. Good luck and make sure you pull out of it before the plane smacks into the ground.

Thanks for the help. I tried it today with a friends Ultra Stick. It took a couple of rotations and just started to spin when I backed off. Will try it again. We were flying off of snow and using skis. Will flaps help or hinder the flat spin?
Any idea how well the Tower Uproar performs this maneuver? Stock built ARF.
Thanks!

You'll prolly see the best results in a flat spin using full throttle. I typically go neutral aileron going into the spin, just full elevator and full rudder and bring up full throttle. Then keep wings level with aileron.
But the best way to get a plane into a flat spin that doesn't do it well naturally is from a blender. This time your nose straight down, half throttle, left aileron. Then when you get a little speed quickly go left full rudder, full elevator, neutral aileron, full throttle. Then balance the wings again with aileron. This method gets the tail whipping with centrifugal force. If your plane won't flat spin from a blender, then there's no hope for it.
