Default Knife ARF Servos?

Hey guys, I plan on picking up a Knife ARF in the next day or two. I know the ARF's weigh more than the kit so I want to keep it as light as possible. I plan on using a small 5 cell NIMH pack, 555 reciever and hs225 MG servos for the tail and wing. At 6 volts the 225's have more torque than a standard servo. They should work great right? They also weigh a good bit less. Anyone have experience with these servos on a .40 size fun fly? Thanks.

My buddy Jes has been flying a 4 lb omp edge with 225's. He's been using the nylon geared version. He's replaced the aileron servos at least three times that I know of......

225s are ok servos although they're centering isn't the best. I've used them in an Ultra Stick 40 with good results. I currently use them on a Morris Sudokhoi and they work just fine with a 4.8v battery. They still have more torque than standard servos with the 4.8v. If you're really about saving weight, go for the 225s with a tiny 720 or 780 mah 4.8v battery and have a blast!

They might have a lot of torque, but the nylon gears will strip before you get it!

If you have to have them, go with the metal geared version...

Default Knife ARF Servos?

I have put about 100 flights on my knife ARF in the past 2 weeks ive had it built. I had heard about the ARF being heaveir so i installed JR 3421 metal gear mini digital servos and a JR 610 mini reciever. 600 MAH 4 cell pack and OS 50SX came out to exactly 4.5 pounds flies awsome! here is a pic of it hovering yesterday at a local funfly

Default Cool!

Was just doing a search to see how many guys ahve tried this. I too have the 3421 mini digital's from JR and thought that might be a good way to save some weight. I also have the Saito 72 which is an ounce lighter than the 50sx. I'll be using a 955 Rx, and old style duralites (800 ma). 4.5 pounds?!? I think I'm gonna love mine. I just gotta get out from under all this programming (which will be soon) and it looks like I'm gonna have a blast!

you do not need metal gears for this plane but mini servos will not work. The small digitals i am using have metal gears so they work fine but regular mini servos would strip pretty quick

I am using the Hitec 225MG's with great success on my Sudokhoi. Very satisfied with them. Save some nice weight, and are plenty strong. Just make sure to get the MG version.
