Burrito....
Hey... whaddya guys think about a plane that is simular to the Knife.. Same wingspan... same airfoil....
But built with a 3/8" carbon fiber shaft down the center of the fuse... Then a top and bottom fuse piece out of 3/8" sq balsa... Engine pod would be out of 3/16" ply, doubled.... Contruction would be simular to the taco... CNC routered parts... Minimal fitting.... Leading edge of the wing would only be half sheeted with 3/16" sub spars.....
Talked to Morris... The said I could screw up their kit all I wanted!!

Burrito....
The wing span would be 44" with 750 sq. in of wing area... You could probably run a .32 size engine on it... but I'm thinking .46 size...
I'm guessing with just the wing and fuse mod, I could cut out about 8 oz... so I'm guessing the plane would come out to around 4 lbs... and the fuse should be stronger and stiffer....
I don't want to run micro servos.... I'm thinking standard servo's... and I'd like to keep things simple to build... Anyone else have some idea's on cutting out weight?

I'm starting to wonder if you could build the plane with no sheeting on the fuse. It sounds like it doesn't need and it would look very cool with a trans covering.

While you're at it PaulSwany........
I'd like to see a Knife, Burrito, cheesy Gordita crunch or what ever you decide to call it with about a 72" wingspan so I can use my trusty YS 91 on.
I think the Knife design needs the fuse stretched a bit. Say a 44" wingspan with a 48" fuse. That'll really improve the hover-bility and 3D ability. Of course the radical spin-gyration tumble action will suffer a bit.
I've got the plans to the Knife. I may have to try that.

What do the rest of y'all think?? Do you think you'd like the longer coupling??
Acrophobicflyer - I could definately do the 60 - 90 size bird... It would need removable wings I'm guessing... and maybe a thicker fuse... Not sure yet... could use 1/2" CF tube and 1/2 wide fuse...
