what is the best fun flyish/3dish plane?
hi
I am looking for a fun flyish/3dish airplane. I'm not exactly sure which because I never really fly with other people so i havent seen either in action. right now I fly a tiger 2. Its a taildragger, has a 46 fx with a concealed MCM. clipped wings, knuckle ailerons and enlarged surfaces. it weighs 5 lbs. I know i need to continue moving the cg back but right now it doesn't satisfy my youthful recklessness. I want something that can become a whirling ball of wings fuse and tail, and generally burn a hole in the sky. (both 3d and funfly fill these voids right, and there very similar) I will use the 46 fx and MCM.
I like the laser 3d, and sig fazer, and also the flip 3d. i like tapering wings, and I like fiberglass, and full flying surfaces. i would be willing to build from plans. I dont mind profile fuses as long as I could fit fiberglass tanks inside wing center sections.
thank you very much for your input

Dont forget about a Pizzaz. Its more on the FF type, its probably capable of 3D with the right nut on the sticks..I like the one I had with an Irvine 53, it was alot of fun. If you get one, DO NOT use the hinges, that come in this kit....G

mullenc525,
This is an interesting request regarding fiberglass fuel tanks? Why would you want a fiberglass fuel tank for a .46 engine instead of the more durable, readily available plastic tanks on the market. Regardless, check out "www.ohiomodelplanes.com" for the Edge 540 Profile, the "FF540P" which has been a proven 3d/funfly favorite of many enthusiasts for 2 years running. It's also won some funfly competitions overseas this past year. It's not an ARF and is very easy to build. If you want to learn 3d or simply twist the nose to the tail in any direction, this plane will do it! Check out the testimony section on the website for more.

If you are in the market for an arf with full flying surfaces get the flip 3D from kyosho. Avoid the limited capability UCD, I know there are many on here that love the UCD but after flying one a couple times. No thanks. THe flip is better, IMO. If you want profiles there are many to choose from and searching RCU will reveal the favorites. Jeff Williams

i was thinking fg tanks because they can be made any shape, and if they weighed the same as one of those plastic tanks they would be wayyyy stronger. I was planning on putting them in the wing center section and using a cline probably

UCD.... Good hovering plane. Crappy 3D
Flip...... Looks good. Never flown one.
Top Cap
Sledge
Knife
Su-Do-Khoi
OMP edge 540
All are great small 3D planes.
My Favorite is the Sledge second is the Top Cap.

My memory bad, your memory good. I guess I did have it there. But too windy that day to fly it. Since then I have flown it more and I like it. We get together again you can have it for a couple tanks. BTW, Toby has the Yak 54 prototype flying with a OS 160 and it is awesome. It came in at 10lb 2oz with no lightening. The OS pulls it well, I have not gotten to fly it yet but should soon.

I will put a Turner Minus up against any Sled, I mean Sledge, Top Cap, Knife in a fun fly type event and bet all the way on the Minuse smoking it. There is no comparison.
3D, they may do a couple things better, overall tho I would still pick the Minus.
There is alot out on the market now, depends on how detailed you want to get with one avenue. You want to do more fun fly type stuff, go with a Minus, Plus or Menace. Want to 3D, either will work fine, the Morris is going to cost more, more to set up, and burn better after it augers into the tundra. Several points to ponder.
