Jeff, what about a Slextra?
Jeff Williams,
I have a Carden 35% Edge 540 (unfortunately still in the boxes)and will be getting the 35% Extra 330 in June. I already have a Sledge (Well, technically, Latch66 is still building my sledge!) It would be cool to have miniature versions of each!!!
Any thoughts?

Jeff, what about a Slextra?
If you want an extra 330 profile we can do it. Right now I could only do the plans and it would be a scratch build, no instructions just the full size plans. What size were you thinking, profile or full body? I would need some people to build the prototypes.
I am so busy finishing this Yak 54 for Morris and then I have an electric we are going to do that will be a full arf from the start and it will perform awesome, because I will not let it go to market till it does. But I can do some plans for an extra.

Jeff, what about a Slextra?
A Morris Fun Design looks kinda close - you could probably kit bash it to make it look more like an extra - but then again that would take all the fun out of designing/scratch building one!

Dennis, tampa fl, my initial thoughts on an electric are a full fuselage, scale aerobatic plane. No edge, it is beat to death but something different. I would get one going and get the testing done and then get the ducks in a row so that when you buy it, very little assembly and it is ready. Like less than 4 hours assembly and rtf. I have not worked on this project at all because I am still working on the manual to the new Yak 54 big profile for Morris that Toby Silhavy and I designed. This manual will take more time than I imagined. So it will be some time before I can get to the electric but that is what I wanted to do next. But this extra fun fly could be got going quicker because it would be a plans only thing, at least at first till I decided what I wanted to do with it. I like the extra and it has great qualities.
JNjackson, what do you guys have in mind? I 40 size, 90 size or 1.60 size extra? Give me some direction on what you want to see and we could get it going. Profile or full fuse? Now you can tell me.

Ok just my .02 here. I'd go for the .40 size profile, but thats just me, the .40 size stuff is a lot easier on my wallet then the bigger stuff. Oh by the way i been thinking of scratch building something again!

2. .40 sized
3. Removable wings (optional)
4. Pull-Pull setup
5. Double taper wing for construction ease.
That is all I can think of for now.

Ditto to what lomcevek said. I thought this thread would generate more response. The problem with going with a .90 size is you start losing some of the agility that you have with a smaller plane. If you have some plans Jeff I would love to take a stab at a prototype. I have this Enya .49 that needs a home.........

Will not even start the plans for a bit. Just too busy with this 1.60 size Yak 54 profile for Morris. Then I am finishing some plans for a friend then I can work on it. That gives us till mid summer, keep this post alive you guys and get more people to weigh in. I have not heard much in the way of profile fuse, regular fuse, removable wings (not a 40 size) etc. Keep the wishes coming, this will most likely start as a plans only deal at first then maybe we could go to a custom kit thing, like selected balsa, carbon fiber gear, all pro hardware, etc. You guys get the idea. I have thought about an extra before, but just too little time in the day. Jeff W.

I say try the 60 size Extra because they have the Yak and Edge. I hear the 60 size fly much better due to the bigger wing and they fly like a big plane.

Jeff, now you have sparked my interest! Selected balsa, carbon fiber, pro hardware.....Yea, that's why we builders build. ARF's have gotten as cheep as a kit, but we can and want to build something better than the average ARF, and that is why we still build. A kit that is nothing more than a disassembled ARF is not really appealing, but what you are talking about, well that is another story. Where do I sign up?

The more I think about it... I like the 60 - 90 size bird for this... Probably have to have removeable wings... Something in the 7 lb range... and wing area in the 1100+ range... Maybe airfoiled tail feathers?

how about a 1.60 sized bird (similar in size to your yak) but with airfoil that isnt too thick.. thinner than your yak, but not quite thin.. medium.. thickness i guess.

While I agree the market is flooded with .40 sized planes there is a good reason for that. A good design is affordable to more people and more planes will sell.
If a sixty sized plane is the way to go, lets see if there could be balanced controls or paddles like on full scale aerobatic planes.

Wings, do not get your hopes up too fast. It will be plans only from the start, but down the road I would like to produce a kit with those things I mentioned earlier. I would like to see everything included in the full kit, but good stuff. Brands like dubro, sullivan, sonictronics etc. and offer a short kit, or plans only. Hey this is our hobby, our passion and we can do it all together to come up with a plane we can all enjoy and all have input to make it happen.

Just want to keep this up on the list a little. By the way Jeff I just told my wife I need to build another plane >hint grin< Just a ? here how much heavier would a full fus be as opposed to a profile? I guess im referring to a .40 siz plane here.
