I crashed my Sukhoi this weekend. I was setting up a low (and slow) pass when the engine flamed out. I was way downwind, and didn't realize it for a few seconds... then flipped it over and tried to make it back to the field. I clipped a tree branch; the firewall (with engine and cowl still attached) flew off and the rest of the plane spun to the ground flat.
Feh.
All the gear survived 100% intact. Even the throttle servo! This is one time I was glad that I used the brittle wire the ARF manufacturer supplied.
Anyway. All this talk about the Morris Top Cap has me intrigued. I just happen to have four good servos and a YS .53 available (see above
)... does this plane require standard-sized servos or micros?

pull pull hardware is supplied in the arf. I am pretty sure it is included on the kit as well. I am flying my top cap arf with YS 63. It is amazing. it will hover w/ 4 clicks of throttle. it will shoot out of a hover at full throttle doing rolls until it is out of sight.

Sorted. On order from GCBMRC - I took advantage of the free shipping deal he has running on eBay.
"m.gramling" - what size tank are you using? I'll be running a YS .53.

I am have a hayes 8oz tank inside the wing. I can get about 8 min. flight. Then I need to land. My YS 63 has enought power. I would prefer to have a YS 53 on it. I can almost hover at 4 clicks of up throttle it climbs just a tad, 3 clicks it starts to tail slide, 5 clicks it starts to climb quicker..that is with a 14x4 zinger.
I have tried 13x6APC, pretty much the same problem. ON my day off I am going to the hobby shop, and looking for a differant prop.
I am use to juggling the throttle, alittle, I am still in the process of find the right prop. I am trying to find a 13x4W APC. I don't want to pay APC shipping charge for one prop. But to my knowlege APC hasn't release the props to distrubitors yet.

gramling,
Did you use the regular or slim-line hayes tank? Did you use T's and dots in the lines or do you just un-plug to fuel/vent? I'm working on securing my YS .53 now

I am pretty sure it is a slim line because its a tight fit to get the tank inthe wing. My lines are as follows
My fuel clunk went to the fuel filter,
I used my vent to go to check valvle,
I opened up the middle line in tank and ran a smaller piece of fuel tubing out so I can use it for filling.
To fill I unplug my middle line (fill line) and undo it from the check valve to fill up. When I am don't I have to take the line off of the fuel filter then suck the fuel out. I used the 3rd line so I won't have to find the line with the fuel filter on the bottom of the plane, except when i had to suck the fuel out.
Hope this helps. Keep me posted.

m.gramling,
Thanks for your input the other day on the ys 63. This was very helpful. Now you make me wonder if I should he the ys 53 based on your comment. If you had it do to over again would you get a ys 53?
Thanks

flynlow,
If I had it to do over again. I was never able to buy a YS 53. when i found about YS,(and when I had the money to buy it) they already stopped making the 53. If YS still made a 53 I would buy one. So my only option was a 63. From what I heard and read on RCO (RIP) and RCU, the 63 will turn the same prop as a 53 but about 500-1000 RPM higher than the 53.
Since my 63 grossly overpowers the top cap arf, I think a 53 will do just fine and probably better(if the above statement is true), because it will give you a better sweet spot on the throttle. I love my YS 63 on my top cap arf. I am still trying to find the right prop for this combo. Once I get the right prop, I dont think you will able to beat this setup. I probably need a 13x4W APC. I am going to try and find a 13x5 APC and 13x5 MA. So far I have tried a 14x4 zinger (the plane won't slow down enough to land)
and with a 13x6 APC still won't slow down enough to land. Its ok when the wind is calm. But I have a bad cross wind its real hard to land. this plane does everything great, but I can't get it to stay still in a hover. It either wants to climb or tail slide.
I had my 63 on my Sig something EXtra weight was 5.25lbs. w/ a 13x6 prop, it hovered about 1/2 throttle.

nickbee,
I?m using neither right now. You probably saw my post that I had sent to m.gramling. I copied what he had previously stated to you to ask my question I meant to bold this but forgot. Sorry. I hope to have my Top Cat by the end of the month. Do you have your tank mounted in the wing? My dad mounted his on the outside. He was afraid it might leak and ruin the wing. One advantage of having it mounted outside on the Fuselage is you are able to see the remaining fuel during a flight. My two cents worth. Oh where did you find the YS 53?

I put my fuel tank int the wing. see how it works.
I'd love to say it is a great flyer ,and I am sure it is,now if the weather would cooperate so I can try it out!!!
