Default Magic fuel tank

I was getting ready to put in a fuel tank in my Magic. Has anyone used the stock tank? I usually do not trust standard(cheap) fuel tanks.)

Default Original Tank

My buddy and I both used the supplied tank with no problems , neither of us has too many flights on them . I wouldn't use it with a YS .

I used mine with the stock tank for quite a while. Then it developed a crack around the neck. I would say I had over 100 flights on it before this happened.

Default Magic fuel tank

Rightflyer,
I don't have much faith in the stock tanks either, along with some of the other cheap hardware I've seen with some kits. I've heard of a lot of tank failures with the stock Magic 3D tank. A friend of mine had one split in his Magic and it made a mess. Fuel and balsa don't get along! Since tanks are so cheap I'd personally get a Dubro, Sullivan, or another of good quality and stick in there.

I had the same problem. Stock tank got crack at the neck. The same tank I got in Model Tech Extra 300. I didn't even try to put it inside the plane. I just cut it in half - makes a perfect bowl for mixing epoxy

My stock magic fuel tank started leaking after 5-7 flights. Got everything wet. Replacing it now with a 6 oz tank.

Default Magic fuel tank

I HATE that **** fuel tank that comes with the Magic!

I have had at least 3 of them split at the neck.

I recovered my magic in the same scheme as my 40% Extra and the engine quit in a hover!

Guess why?

The fuel tank split at the seam on the neck!

Now my wingtip needs recovered.
Off to do covering now.

Anyone know of a good tank to replace it with that will fit in the Magic fuse without major modifications?

Doing some research for my own Magic, I found a Sullivan RST 6 or 8 oz will fit. The 8 is a little snug, but should work.

I like the ones by Hayes. I don't think they have a website. Hobby People handles them among others. Very nice quality, built thick but not heavy and brittle.

Default Magic fuel tank

When my Magic was new I filled in the firewall hole, covered my firewall with covering, then drilled some 1/4" holes in the firewall to route my fuel lines thru. This is the way I prefer to do it. With the Magic I wanted my fuel tank as low in the fuselage as I could get since I mounted my engine in an inverted 45 degree position to run my mousse can under the fuselage. I didn't want the fuel tank to be way higher than the carb. The way Modeltech had it setup with that hole location the tank would be high up. Just some info that may help someone out.

Default Magic fuel tank

Just wasted my Magic.
Leaky fuel tank, soaked balsa, stalled in hover,= nose in the ground. Bummer.

Buy a good fuel tank.
