Got to fly the giant OMP edge FF at the Joe Nall
Ricky (Citation X) and I visited the OMP booth at the Joe Nall and talked to Mike. He was a real nice guy and said to come see him later in the day during open flying and he would let us fly his GS 540 ff.
It had an OS160fx. It was the old version. What a blast. It was so easy to 3D with, it was silly. It took about 30 sec to get the feel of it. Then I put it in a TR about 20 ft high and lowered it to the ground. Mike ran and grabbed his camera and took a few pics. Here are a couple.
That is the back of Ricky's head in the "NAUTICA" shirt.

Wayne, you will have fun with this one. A Moki 1.8? It should be ballistic. The OS 160 pulled it like crazy.

Right
Yea Chuckster, I have seen the thread on that site. I said Wayne should have fun with it because if they are like me and my friends are, Wayne should be getting a bunch of sticktime on it also.

I got some time on it on the first flight.
I may have done the first landing on it.
it was waayyy tail heavy. Flew good though.
I told Karl I didnt want to be the first one to tail tap it. But, if I have to be, so be it!
Karl is a DAMN good 3D pilot for the amount of time hes been flying.
He needs to forget about the money and time invested and go for it. He has the thumbs.

WHO was out flying despite windy conditions today? WHO drove 45 miles to get parts so he could do it?
I have a total of 5 or 6 flights on it so far. I'd like to get a break from building/repairing for a while.
Gimme a break. I'm just a beginner.

He's no beginner boys...

It takes longer to learn stuff when you are as old as I am.

First of all,
Your not gonna dork it.
If you do, it goes back together with the same glue you used when putting it together.
You do better than 90% of the people we fly with. (Hmm, that may not be saying much)
You'll see, when you get used to this plane a little more it will do everything you've been doing with the Knife, the QHOR, The Sukhoi, The Sukalyn, the SE so much easier.
Think of it as new cheese..

He he he. If you think it gets thick/deep here, you should hear it at the field.
Jess-
I'm still flying mine up where it's a dot. Maybe I should try it with someone else's plane?

Jess, you seem to be able to Tork every plane after 30 seconds. Wish I could do that. I am happy if I get 1 or 2 tork rolls out of my planes.
Tony aka YNOT told me also that he flew a OMP Edge at Joe Nall, and he said it was a lot of fun to fly. Maybe it was the same one.

I have ton of raw video of the three OMP edges from Thursday evening at the Nall. The takeoff to snaproll to torque roll to tail touch all at under 10 ft off the deck were impressive. I'll have to get wingspan99 to convert some to mpeg so we can post it on here. You know youre in close when you have a spotter, and youre a cameraman LOLOLOLOL. He was under explicit orders to push me if anythin got within whappin distance.
The crowd reaction was quite mixed. Most really liked the display, but quite a few (mainly other pilots and spotters) were voicing everything from concern to downright disgust over the flying style. My guess is not out of jealousy, but out of concern, because this was right at the edge of the flightline with three planes within 20 feet (usually less). And you know when you get planes of any size that low, it defiately generates a crowd LOLOL.
So Jess, Were you flying the edge when it took the tail off the knife? That was hillarious. The guy flyin the knife landed, pulled on what little piece of rudder he had left to make sure the single hinge and linkage was sturdy, and took back off LOLOLOLOLOLOL. He flew for another few minutes after that, and had it repaired and out on the flightline the followin day.

There were 3 there
Ulf, there were 3 of them there. 2 Pink ones with Futaba on them, and the yellow and green one.
There were a bunch of kids with Futaba clothes on flying the pink one. But this dude in Airtronics dud's came up and started flying the pink one and he was good!! I was harriering the yellow one inverted right on the deck and he came up and harriered upright about one foot apart. It looked killer. Then we started TRing side by side.
He was from South America, his english was not that good. Ricky and I saw him fly his extra, and we saw him do a rolling circle with inverted harrier stops at the points about 2 feet off the ground. :stupid:
Last pic.

Right
Steve, you are right, those kids with the pink one were much closer than 25 ft to the crowd. I like to 3D close but these guys were on the edge of control, and too close to people with there backs to the flt line.
I was out there Fri eve.

Oh, I meant the OMP guys were usually about 6 ft apart, or less, about 2 feet off the deck. They were only 20 ft apart when they were pullin out.
The guy that Jess is talkin about was flyin a CA extra(if its the same person I'm thinking of), he was tryin to drag his wongtip (err wingtip) on the ground doin knifeedge passes. He would then take it up high, do a series of blenders, the last of which he would kill the engine, do an inverted harrier down to about 15 ft. Then on final approach (still deadstick and inverted), an agonizingly slow series of point rolls (4 of 4 and 2 of 4), ending upright and lightly touches down in front of him. Was truely an awesome sight.
This was one of his passes (I got him just after the wingtip drug on the grass) Maybe wongtip was the right word to use, cause ya gotta have big nads to do that pass after pass after pass. Wind didnt matter to him, just made him bolder.
