WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON PAINTING A WOODEN PROFILE FUSE INSTEAD OF COVERING? SEEMS LIKE IT WOULD SOLVE THE PROLEM OF GETTING FUEL UNDER THE COVERIN G IN THE ENGINE SECTION.

I wouldn't do it...
The covering gives you strength and much better protection. It's lighter and won't flake off...JUst seems odd to paint a profile. I guess I have never heard of it or seen it done. Doesn't mean t can't be done though...
Finding a good fuel proof paint to go directly on balsa is hard, but if you can find some, there is no reason not to paint some areas that could be exposed. I would not do the whole thing though...

I would only paint the areas you really had to, you just cant get a good enough finish without adding quite alot of weight and time on bare balsa, you could glass it first with really light weight cloth, but I don't see the point, your only going to put it in on its wing tip or "land" it inverted one day anyway so go with something simple.
