Which hacker is it Chuck? I've got a B20 - 15L with a gear reduction...

RE: Need help with electrics!

I run the B20 22S in a D gear GWS box, it's like a Razor 350 on steroids, but no so hot a wind that I can't run a 12X6.

RE: Need help with electrics!

I wonder if there is anything I can do with that B20 - 15L....

RE: Need help with electrics!

There are some actually really cool balsa 3D electrics that the 15L would do fine in. The 4:1 gearbox is just a little high for 3D props IMHO, but they can't make a planetary any lower that physical size. Still, with good packs it'll swing an 11X4.7, so the little balsa planes (or even bigger 44" foamies) would still be cool. I'm gonna slap an 18L in a C box and try some 13~14" props [8D]

RE: Need help with electrics!

2 or 3 cell LiPo packs? How many amps do you think that bad boy will pull with a 12 x 6 prop? I ran a GWS prop on it for awhile in a Airwave Design Suk... Had a 9 cell pack.... Hmmmm.. that would be 10.8 nominal volts... seems like a 3 cell 11.1 pack would be fine... Might need two though...

RE: Need help with electrics!

Man I wish I could follow all that!!

So Chuck, got a Razor you want to sell?

ChuckAuger 05-12-2004 04:47 PM

RE: Need help with electrics!

That's the paradox on electrics..when you go up in voltage, you have to run a smaller prop. If you ran 3S lipos on it, it would draw too many amps on a 12X6 IMHO. You would be better off on 2S if you really wanted to run a 12X6, not sure how fast it would turn it...

Hey Gordo! What in the world do you need a motor for? I thought that you were going to use an FX on that Taco? :) You don't need no stinking motor!

RE: Need help with electrics!

Gordo, try aeromicro.com for a Himax. They list them, and may have them in stock.

Razorback58,
Sorry I missed your phone call. My phone service sometimes does not tell me I have voice mails. You can always get me via e-mail. I hope I can help you in the future.

Gordo,

What size of Himax are you looking for. I stock them now, I have some 2015-4100 motors in stock.

Troy

OK guys, time for the next dumb question! What is the preferred method of mounting the servos? Do you silicone them in? I'm about to finish up an E-Yak (grunt, grunt, grunt!) and need to know how to mount the servos. Help?!?!?!?!?!

RE: Need help with electrics!

I used hot glue on the last two I built.... Just scuff the side of the servo with a little sandpaper first...

RE: Need help with electrics!

You can wrap the servo with scotch tape and glue it in with 5 min epoxy. When you get ready to put the servo in the next planethe tape makes it an easy few seconds job to get the servo "cleaned" back up.

I've had pretty good luck with Hot glue....

I might try the hot glue idea. Do you use it for the assembly of the plane too?

1 Attachment(s)
I use this thick double back tape to attach servos. I bought it at wall mart and it is about 1/16" thick kinda jelly like but it sticks very well. Give it a try.

I have in some areas, but you have to be careful not to milt the foam. Don't ask how I know.

RE: Need help with electrics!

Ah, good point. My wife tells me there are 2 types of hot glue, one is cooler for kids. Which are you guys useing?

And is anyone really using flaperons or anything that requires the 2 wing servos be on 2 channels? I'm thinking about a 4 channel rx. For that matter, do we need to have 2 wing servos at all?

RE: Need help with electrics!

I've been playing with spoilerons mostly for waterfalls and elevators. My nitro Taco elevators fairly well with spoilerons but I haven't gotten it to waterfall with them. It will waterfall with flaperons but I can't keep heading on it. My Burrito will waterfall either way but I can usually maintain heading with spoilerons.

Ikarus is about to launch a brushless with a retrofit mount for Shocky next week that's supposed to rival the AXI. I don't have exact details, should be sometime next week.
