New Fun-Fly in Development
Hmm, I wasn't aware of the HS-225's causing problems, but I appreciate the heads-up. They are actually quite powerful mini's(around 67 oz), but I'll probably substitute them for HS-545's then.
I understand about the basic aerodynamics of a fun-fly, it's just that this is the first one I've had/seen with a tapered wing thickness. I actually meant "why the tapering of the wing thickness?" on my previous post... not the taper on the root. It actually looks quite neat when constructed. I appreciate the reply on "why aerodynamically" that was done. I understand how that tail wheel works now. All my previous planes had the tail wheel attached to the rudder via a wire. I think I like this way better... less hassle Couple other questions. Have any tips on how to achieve the wing dowel alignment perfectly the first time? I will use epoxy so I can heat it up to shape if need be, but I would love to get it completely right the first time. Also, how long did you make the wing alignment dowels on your wing, and did you coat them in thinned epoxy for strength, or just use the dowel naturally? I probably won't get much done in the next 4 days or so as I have to work 12 hour days, but I should be able to throw up some pics soon. Kevin |
PwrDrill - Replys
You will find that there are many people on this forum that claim that they have, and are currently using the 225 MG sucessfully, but this has not been my experience. I can't tell you what the difference is, only that I have had this problem and recommend against them in my aircraft. I think that you will find that the 545s are a better choice.
Regarding the wing alignment question - I use the fuse side. Drill the holes through the fuse side, then align it against the wing, and transfer the hole pattern. I use a short left over section of Dave Brown rod for wing dowel sleeves. The dowels in mine are about 1/2' - 3/4" in length. I have applied thin CA to the dowels after I dry fit the dowels to the sleeves once the fuse is assemblied. By the way, one of my other customers building the Ecstasy has pointed out to me that the large laser cut circle in the 1/8" lite ply wing rib cap (R1) needs to be glued in place. This is where the #6-32 bolt goes into the blind nut for wing fastening. Be sure to glue it in and re-enforce it appropriately - SORRY - but I am human too! Kevin :D |

Hey guys. Im not interested in the pizza box right now. I still have a few days to finish my PW extra then on to the ecstasy then late winter Im going to put together a combat plane so most of my winter (and funds) are booked up. I intend on using hitec 545's on the elev-rud and HS 77's on the ailerons (on the ecstasy)using a 1650 6v NIMH pack for extra torque and speed
