Finished my PBXL today. Not sure on the weight but seems reasonable. It is the laser cut kit from HSRCM.com (Kevin Harbrecht) and it builds very easily. Where applicable, the parts interlock and it is has been a quick project. I installed a GMS .25, standard servos on all four channels and a 4 oz fuel tank. Would have flown it today but God is watering our lawns. Hope to get it out later this week and I will post a flight report. Below is a picture of the bottom. Thanks Jeff Williams.

How much do they cost and where can you mail order them? Are they much better fliers than the PBF?

Yeh Jeff, how come you're not up flying that brown jet? I think you should blow up that PBXL toan 80" version and call it a flying carpet! Now wouldn't that be cool....

I just got my kit yesterday.... I think it will build really quickly... I can probably frame it in an evening and cover it in another evening.... I'm going to use either a Irvine .25 or a OS .32

I just got mine yesturday as well. Jeff maybe I need to come fly yours for a little motivation to get mine going. Im heading to the hobby shop this afternoon for the remaining wood and hardware.

And you guys either build way too fast or have too much free time. I will report back on how long it takes a normal human being to complete the kit.

Well, it would have been done sooner but too many distractions. Yes, I am lucky that my regular job allows me extra free time. Good thing, I have several big planes to build, a 35% edge, 80" omp profile edge, HSRCM ecstasy not to mention the 4 waiting to be covered. And tailspnr you want me to build your OMP 80" edge? If I have time I would do it, talk to me this spring. ANyway, the PBXL still sits in the shop waiting for the weather to cooperate. Supposed to be good this weekend and I am off. Planning on attending that swap meet in Lexington Saturday morning maybe on the way back thru I will stop at EPTS and test the PBXL, will you be there Scott K or Scott A? Jeff Williams

Jeff, I just got back from our club meeting and was considering going to the swap meet in Lexington. If you decide to go give me a call and I may go with you. As far as the OMP 80"er goes I will definately contact you if you would seriously consider building one for me......SHHHHHHHH to everyone else.

Glad to hear that you finished your PBXL and I'd love to give it a shot or atleast see you fly it. I sold another 5 PBF kits at our club meeting tonight and am anxious to see them show up at our field. I have been truly having too much fun flying the PBF's.

And no Wild Fly....we dont hate you....we just must have missed your post....Dohhhh

I would love to see the PBXL fly. It looks pretty cool. If you are going to be at EPTS this weekend, let us know. If you call Scott K, tell him to call me. I'm curious on how well it flies. I "Love to Modify", but I can't find anything to modify on the PBF that actually makes it fly better! (without adding weight and taking some of the good qualities away) TailSpnr (Scott K) increased the rudder and fin area on his and I got a chance to fly it. It definately flys better with the larger fin and rudder. My next one will have the new 6 1/2 x 7 fin/rudder. I love the way these things fly. Especially on calm days.

Dear PBF god.........could we talk a little bit about the "falling leaf" wobble phenomenon that PBF's have? I am begining to think that the carbon fiber spar I put in the leading edge of my PBF may have caused the "falling leaf" wobble. Although it makes the front of the PBF considerably stronger and crash resistant, the lack of "flex" may be causing some of the "wobble". It's most pronounced in medium to high wind at very high alpha. Do you have this phenomenon with your PBF's? TailSpnr and I discussed it tonight at our club meeting. His newest "Budwiser" PBF will not have the leading edge spar. Does the increased flex of the Coroplast without a spar allow air to "spill" and prevent the "Falling Leaf". How does yours fly in the wind in High Alpha? I am now wondering if my mod has detracted from the overall performance of the PBF by making the wing too stiff. Also...without the spar, the wing would flex in "toliet bowls" giving a dihedral effect in both positive and negative maneuvers. (Although this flex would not apply in High Alpha or Hovering unless it has formed a permanent "set" from too many toilet bowls.) LOL

The weather is cooperating today and the PBXL will attempt flight. Nobody/tailspnr I am going to Lexington swap meet this Saturday. I will throw the PBXL in the suburban and stop by EPTS saturday afternoon and we can fly it (if everything goes well today) may throw the sledge in if there is room. I hope to be by there around 2 give or take an hour. Jeff Williams

I got a couple test flights in yesterday. It was a little windy but it flew fine. The PBXL is very good in harrier, spins upright and inverted very good, tight and held altitude, landings are slow and I can taxi it. I did let it get some speed and it did fine, no flutter but watch the sudden dives, knife edge forget that it will not. Overall a good easy fun project and for the money ($32 for a laser cut kit) I give it "a should buy". If any of you have questions email me at [email protected] Thanks, Jeff Williams

Here is another picture of a hover. Scott and Scott, I hear we will have warm weather Saturday but windy. I flew the PBXL in wind yesterday and it is not the plane for wind but it did fine. I will stop by and if you guys are there fine, if not I understand. Jeff W.

The PBXL will not replace a profile like the Sledge or Aeron, though is allot of fun. As Jeff says, its easy to build and is a great trainer for Hovering, Harriers, Elevators, flat spins, rightside up and inverted. I appreciate Jeff posting his thoughts. It is not easy to convince people of an aircraft's capabilities when you are the designer. It helps to have others express their opinion.

Landing Gear Blocks - I used SIG's landing gear block material. It's basswood already with a groove in it for an 1/8" dia. wire. I used maple gear blocks that Jeff and I made when I was at his house, though I believe that they are too hard. I like the basswood versions better. Yes mine is in one piece, though I have ripped out one landing gear block doing a Harrier dragging the tail wire and the engine burped (OOPS!). I have it fixed and am going to start another this weekend. My son wants one so we can play some combat.

I'm moving along on my PBXL and have a question. I have never formed a wire landing gear before. Do you use a special bender when forming the wire landing gear or just use a vise?

Would have made some good progress this weekend but my wife decided I should make some shaker boxes for gifts.
