Omp Build Finished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Almost forgot, covering job looks fantastic. After all, the whole purpose of building and flying this type of plane is to stand out from the crowd and show off a little. Might as well be a little loud and enjoy the attention of a nice looking bird.
Good job Ed :D |

I managed to get the servos with regular extensions through the channel as shown on the plans. It was a pain, but it probably took less than 30 min. The connections DO need to be secured (I use GoreTex fishing line), but I do that on all connections. It is cheap, easy, and has saved me at least one plane.
Mine balanced easily with a TT .46. If you are looking for an inexpensive engine, than this is clearly the only choice. It provides enough power to pull out of a hover with modest authority, and costs about $75 at Tower. If you want more power, then the sky is the limit - try a YS .63 at three times that price. Lastly, I have to say that the OMP Edge that started this thread is probably the ugliest plane I have ever seen. No offense intended, but it is really not my cup of tea. Leonard PS Here is my edge - you may feel the same about it. |
Re: OMP FF540P build
Originally posted by coyote Haven't looked real close but is there room for an HS-81 mini servo mounted through the fuselage aft of the engine for the throttle? Will use HS-425's for primary controls. 270ma battery. Don't know which motor I'll hang up front. TOP CAPS ROCK I used Hitec 225MGs all around on mine with an 81 for the throttle. These work great, and have as much torque as the standard ones while weighing 1/2 oz less. It saves at least an ounce in the tail, which makes it easier to balance with a lighter engine. The more I fly mine, the more I like it. Still can't hover worth a darn, but I'm getting better. This plane flat spins great. I can almost get it to climb, and I'm sure if I knew what I was doing, it probably would. I love bringing it in for a landing at a very slow walking pace and let it just settle in with no rollout. |

No offence taken
Remember......I claimed the ugly prize along time ago.......... but since its my first, and Im sure the odds are it will find itself abused or maybe worse in the future, I can live with it. I already have colors picked out for the YAK, and it will be more conventional in nature I assure you. I really had a wild hair up my a@@ with this plane and wanted to be totaly off the wall with it. |

You should be able to mount the servo (HS-81) on the fuse behind the engine. You have to do some planning ahead of time and make a channel that goes through the wing. Cut and opening in one side (the engine side) and nestle the servo there.
This is a GWS NARO BB a little smaller than an HS-81 but they should work the same way. I love this setup and have had no problems with it. |
