cheap 3d trainer
I am looking for a cheap 3d trainer. I would like to get something that would be easy to repair when I crash :D , but if demolished, would not take long to build another plane. I would not like to go the arf route, because I enjoy building. Thanks

Have a look at the PQHOR at www.spadtothebone.com
these must be one of the best 3d trainers and 3d planes out there currently |

you cannot beat the PQHOR...go to the thread silly me advised...there are also other threads...do a search PQHOR or QHOR
cheap...10-12 bucks, very durable (takes a DORKING and keeps on TORQUING) gosh i love saying that.....and is probably the easiest thing there is to hover....try it you will like it! |
PQHOR or QHOR
As stated above - its hard to beat the PQHOR or QHOR for entry level 3-D. They are great for Elevators, Harriers, Hovering, flat spins and a few others. They will not perform the knife edge manuvers, though likem I said, they are great trainers for 3D. I have posted some movies on my website. Just follow the links for movies, then "Awe-HOR" movies. Jason - aka Flyboone has also posted some great movies as well as others. Check out the SPAD forum on RCU for additional info.
You won't regret it! Kevin :D |

Yeah, after I saw Jason (Flyboone's) video I had to make one for myself. Amazing!!!

Regardless of what you get, you have to build a Pqhor. You will not believe how much your flying will progress. Before you know it you will be tail touching while torque rolling!! You can build one for any engine from a .25 on up. A .91 is the biggest I've seen so far. A guy at my field built a pretty big one and is going to use a 1.08 or a 1.20 two stroke. If I bust up my Katana I will probably try to build one for my Saito 1.80!!

Originally posted by mpj220 Kevin, I always like your comments. Here you are, a manufacturer, yet always willing to promote any plane even if not your own. My next plane may have to come from you. I was hoping to find a plane (profile or otherwise) that could 3D with a Ryobi or G26 or some other cheap weedie. HINT HINT NUDGE NUDGE. My pockets are pretty shallow these days. I think the wife is sewing them shorter. I wish I could throw $400 or $500 towards a motor but, weedie seems to fit within my budget. Thanks, Mark Regarding your "Hint - Hint", I have been working a larger version of the Ecstasy, though I am designing it for a 50cc gasser. That is what I want to go to. It has been on the 'back buner' due to personal issues, though I plan on getting back to it. Not sure yet if it will meet your needs, though doubt it [SORRY!] Kevin :D |

3D Trainer
I'd like to echo what everyone has said about the PQHOR or SPA3D as it is being called now. If you can't harrier around on the first flight, you aren't trying. And it should have been called the "Duraplane" except someone already grabbed that one. I would venture to say that anyone who has flown one will tell you that it is the absolute best plane to learn 3D.

Thanks for all of the responses guys! I think I might go for the Taco FF and the PQHOR, and see which one I like the best. Thanks!

Does the pqhor fly drastically different then the qhor or is it just the visual thing with the fuse? Just trying to decide which one too build here.

Originally posted by mpj220 Since building these, they get more flight time than all my other planes. I'm sure that could change if I had a lightweight airframe that could 3D on a weedie......hint hint Kevin (I am relentless). Can that Ecstasy plans be enlarged to accept a 3.5 to 4 pound gasser? The little Ryobi's only produce around 10lb's of thrust from what I have read. Mark Are you sure that 'Weedie' is 3.5-4 lbs! That seems heavy, though I've never weighed one. The 50cc gassers that I've been looking at for the Ecstasy Extreme are right around 3 lbs. If the 'weedie' that you are considering only puts out 10 lbs of thrust, that the current Ecstasy design would handle that. My Ecstasy is 7.5 lbs with a ST90 on it. I have other customers that are running other engines that are running up to 8.5 lbs (that I know of). I have one customer even running a Saito 150 on his ecstasy, though he flies in Utah at above 6,000 ft. above sea level  . The current Ecstasy has approx. 1255 SQ. IN. of wing area. Pending on the location that you fly at, and the 'Weedie's' weight, you may be able to modifiy the existing design to accommodate your 'Weedie'. Kevin :D |
