OMP FF540P engine?
 

I did a search and could not find my answer. I am in the process of building one. I do not have an engine picked out yet. Will a OS46FX be enough to Hover it easily? What is everyone using in this plane?

The only OMP 540 I have seen in person had an FX 46 on it, the performance was phenomenal (of course the pilot is an awesome flyer, but it looked like he had no lack of power)

I use a Saito 72 on mine and it is way over powered. The plane builds fairly light and I believe any BB 46 will fly it just fine. I run a TT46 on my Knife ARF, which I'm not skeerd to say weighs a good pound if not more than my OMP. And it will hover and pull out just fine.

I have the O.S. .46FX on mine with the tower hobbies muffler. Plenty of power. I would guess it hovers at less than half throttle... but I have never looked at the sticks while I was doing it :).

Got an Irvine .53 in mine. Extreme power. Hovers at aobut 1/3 throttle (for as long as I can hover, which isn't long!) Totally balistic pull out. If you can get one, you won't be sorry. But the 46FX will probably do just as well, and they're available everywhere.

My OMP started out with a Royal .46, about 8 flights later and being tired of messing with the engine I bought a TT .46 for it. I fixed the Royal FYI, but the TT is awesome on it. It hovers a little above 1/2 throttle, pulls out with authority. I'm running an APC 11x5 prop, this week I'm going to try a 12.25x3.75 also.

I run a GMS47 w/tuned muffler on mine with a 12x4 and its ballistic to say the least. Pretty sure any 40 would be great and up to 47 if you want lots of extra power.

I put a new Magum XLS 52 on and the vertical is out of sight. I still needed a little nose weight

Thanks for the replies. I guess I can stick with the OS 46FX. I wouldn't mind the Saito 72 though.

put a pipe on that 46 fx, macs header and pipe works well, .25 to .32 pipe though for hovering.

I also have a ST .51 laying around, but never could get it to stay running. I have tried everything. It will just quit mid flight. Plenty rich.

lean or richin the jet on the other side of the carb from the needle jet, probably takes a small flat screwdriver, try it in 1/4 turn increments

Termagator test flew my OMPFF, with an Irvine 46. Did everything I can't do. The only reason I went with the 46 instead of the new 39 was I needed the nose weight. Termagator wanted to move the engine back to the next set of motor mount holes that I had put in so I could move it back if needed. We ran out of time. Hover, harrier you name it.
