Default Older Nelson q40 engine

Have an older Nelson q40, found a carb that will fit with some machining. Noticed that there is a small port in the front of the venturi that must feed the front bearing. Also noticed that the newer Nelson that I have does not have this. wondering if this is necessary? Putting a carb on the thing, can I just cover this up or should I drill a hole in the carb to replicate this. It does have a channel in the block that directs oil to the front bearing as well. Also are the bearings the same size as the newer ones? If anyone knows off hand.
Thanks

Forget about the hole that goes to the front bearing. Nelsons have not had it for a long time. I have epoxyed mine
closed on my older motors.
