Default VECTOR 500 KIT and ARC thoughts

Hi Guys,
I have a question for you. How do you think a low wing, conventional tail Q-500 would be accepted these days? I designed and raced this plane for years and actually sold about 200 before I got out of racing for a few years. I am asking because I am getting a lot of email through my site about whether I would consider bringing out the Vector 500 again. I was very competitive in both 424 and 428 when we raced it.

Thanks for you thoughts. Here is a view of the plans

Happy holidays,
Lewis

Hello,
I would love to see someone bring out a plane like this. I don't get to practice all that much and I always found a low wing/convential tail plane was easier to get set up and fly than all the time it takes to set up a V-Tail right. You also don't need a computer radio with mixing, just dual rates are handy. If my vote counts, I say a definite YES!!!!!!!!

Hi Lewis,
Well you already know my thoughts. We scratch built 9 from the plans you gave us and they fly great. We tried to go with just the VIPERS, but the guys who also wanted to sport fly them, did not like them for that. The Vector I am flying is lighter and faster than the Viper with the same engine and really goes great. Hank has a dozen flights on his with a new AAC Nelson and we had it on the radar gun at 165-167 mph on the course in dead air. It groves great! I don't even need to switch rates from takeoff to landing.

I sure hope you bring it back out based on what we have seen here.

Happy Holidays,

Larry

I agree, bring it back out. I had an original kit I bought in the late 1990's I got from you down at Bowie MD. It flew great, easy to fly and no real fancy , high ticket radios and servos needed. I have seen you and the Bakers do some serious *&# kicking with the low wings and I think a lot of guys are making a mistake over looking designs like this. I think it is just that the hot shoes are flying V-Tails so everyone thinks that is what you need.

If nothing else, I bet they would be a BIG hit for 424

Hello,
I think you could probably do real well with the ARC or ARF, not sure about a kit though. I actually like the idea of an ARC so I can do what I want as far as finishing goes. I went to your site and saw the Pacemaker on there. Are you going to do that one too? How did you finish the fuselage? I like the wood finish.

Thanks for the input on here, I do appreciate it. I just have to think about it for a little bit. I am bringing out my other plane again so this might go along well with it.

Hi Lewis,
I just want to say thank you. The Vector arrived today and it REALLY looks good. I know in your note you said the laser cut ones are even nicer, but I can't see how. As soon as you start selling these you have to let me know. I love the idea you have about a kit fuselage and a ARC wing. The wings are a pain in the neck.
I also notice you did go with that airfoil and I am glad you did. As I said in the past on here in another thread it is on of the best all aorund airfoils and does nothing bad. I will keep you posted as soon as I get it in the air.

Hi Larry,
Thanks, the laser cut with tabs are much nicer and stiffer than those. I will try to post some pictures for you.

Hope these work. For some reason I am having a problem doing this.

Looks great Lewis. The laser cutting and tabs make building these so easy...
